This is a separate IMAX trailer, not the new trailer released today. Phew... I'll watch this a little later.

Actually watched it this time. For only a minute it had much more to it than I thought... nice surprise. The tone: must and pacing, was kinda weird. Not nearly as dramatic.
Btw, the new trailer is a FULL- 2 and half minute trailer today. It's being shown at WonderCon and then posted online, hence it's late internet release.
And yes, some very intriguing alien mysteries. So cool that this isn't another Xeno attack, that would be getting quite old by now.

Get to see a nice full look at the jockey.

Maybe, with a full trailer its very possible but Ridley may keep that under wraps till release.

The major sites, Yahoo and hopefully iTunes will have it on monday.
Watched it: Whoa... not what I was expecting.
Odd little viral add from Fassbender:

This... Sounds almost exactly like one of the first original leaked plot outlines from a long time ago. They find the place, steal something/make the SJ angry and it goes to earth to take revenge.
The dialogue in the beginning is interesting. "Every King has his reign..." who is talking? And it's pretty clear that.. Person, is the space jockey or being in question from the trailers, the bald guy.
But what is happening to his head and arm? Why did he 'die'?
This is amazing.

That summary: Prometheus.
Almost completely sure it's Theron. Question is, is it still her giving the last line "It's inevitable." The sound of the voice is different like it was taken from a different scene but it still maybe her. Possible it could Naomi. The dialogue in the beginning is interesting. "Every King has his reign..." who is talking?
Hard to say, that could even be near the end of the movie... The very beginning, is that a craft on Earth? Can't be the main planet they land on.And it's pretty clear that.. Person, is the space jockey or being in question from the trailers, the bald guy.
I think that's all part of it, he's changing. That's the obvious observation but still. Bigger question is, is that Earth he's on and if so... when? But what is happening to his head and arm? Why did he 'die'?

So I guess Charlize is a pot smoker. During the Q&A someone asked about possible training. She said after doing some of the space walking/running she kinda regretted smoking instead of training... was a little brutal going commando.

If you pause the video at 1:37, you can see a Xenomorph on the wall.

Well remember this derelict ship was in Alien, so there's bound to be homages and clues... aside from "the pilot" .... well Space Jockey at the time but that maybe redefined now.

@Reddragon
Not necessarily , Scott and Lindelhof have repeatedly denied that this movie takes place on LV426 (in spite of both movies taking place in the Zeta Retucli system) and that it is -not- the same ship.
Edit: I should clarify here. The original plot leak that was distributed many months ago, which pretty much summed up the entire latest trailer of Prometheus, had an addition that the trailer did not specify: The means by which the jockey was to punish earth were the alien eggs found in the first movie.
In this plot, the ship is in transit to earth when the film ends (as I recall). So there are variations here, since in Prometheus the SJ ship is seemingly destroyed or atleast crashed on the planet... Assuming, of course, that planet is not already LV426.
There are small variations between this Jockey craft and the one found crashed in Alien. This much is certain. One of the prongs of the ship in this movie juts out a different way than in Alien.
I've always maintained though, that they're lying to us. To what extent I don't know, but I find it really hard to believe that this movie will not lead up to the events which precede Alien.
As for the SJ/bald guy.. I think the shots they show of him probably take place a very, very long time ago. Early earth would be my guess. The rest of the shots of him, in his ship, I think quite clearly take place during the present events of Prometheus.
Also, I paused and freeze framed that "Alien/Xenomorph" mural on the wall a few times. That, to me, is absolutely an Alien. So why did the editor of this trailer (who I've been conversing with btw, in email. Nice guy.) single that shot out for the audience to see? To deliberately tease the Xenomorph if it, allegedly, is not appearing in the film at all?
Unless, of course, Scott is lying to us. A proto-xeno may yet make an appearance near the end. Or the eggs atleast.Last edited by Vulgotha; 03-18-2012 at 05:45.

That would make more sense. I was wondering after all the events of this movie if it ends up crashing to the ground how it would end up in Alien.
And if they don't? If even the derelict ship isn't the same it would have be a smaller detail or something not specific... like a theme.I've always maintained though, that they're lying to us. To what extend I don't know, but I find it really hard to believe that this movie will not lead up to the events which precede Alien.
Could very well be the case. Although the crew transform as well so there's that possibility. However, the crew transforming could be the technology (which would align with Ridley's comments) and the SJ still on the timeline you mention. As for the SJ/bald guy.. I think the shots they show of him probably take place a very, very long time ago. Early earth would be my guess. The rest of the shots of him, in his ship, I think quite clearly take place during the present events of Prometheus.

From the trailer I get the impression that the Jockey, "King" or Engineer died... But somehow was able to bring himself back. Perhaps in that goo in the ampules that David plays with?
However, prior to anything seemingly happening Captain Janek informs the crew that there is a 'lifeform' detected.. Singular, not plural.. So that throws a wrench in that theory in my eyes. Plus, I'd be a bit agitated if it turns out that the SJ mutates one of the crew members and 'becomes' him.
I'd much rather him be in stasis or something.
The crew is definitely transforming.. Into what, I wish I knew. Also, I'm now quite certain that some of the creatures in this film will be snake/worm like organisms.
You see one tearing into the sleeve of one of the crew and Shaw is hyperventilating as you hear one of the guys in the background start screaming "Cut it off! Cut it off!".. After the door to the cockpit strangely opens, much to Janek and the asian guy's surprise. In addition to this, there have been .gif's floating around allegedly from prometheus long prior to this release showing some strange slithering thingy moving around. Perhaps it was just a low rez version of this.
Another point which I think reaffirms this theory is that in some of the shots it shows the crew torching stuff on the ground, and if you look closely you see long 'tail like' things writhing. That's what I see anyway..

This just screams Xenomorph. This better not just be a tease.
And heeeeere's Mr. Space Jockey

My opinion, it is just going to be a tease. Ridley said there could be more movies predating Alien. I'd rather them keep this distant from that story. Hints are fine, laying the ground work for the story to come in the future but this movie is not about them. That could change when I see the movie but so far that's my understanding.
Definitely fighting some tail-esque creatures:

Also, SJ little more close-up but they're hiding his face:

Unless you think it's something else Vulgotha. Kinda thought you would post this along with the other, or I'm just over-analyzing.Last edited by RedDragon7; 03-18-2012 at 07:09.

I don't think it takes place on LV426. The Space Jockeys likely worked with multiple bioships and so the one we're seeing in Prometheus is different. From what I understand of the Xenomorphs, they were created by the Space Jockeys to perhaps wipe out entire civilizations.

Just reading comments on the trailer posting in another site...
People are so fixed on face huggers and chestbursters and Xenos being in this movie. NOT HAPPENING! Just because Fassbender has goo on his fingers does not necessitate a Xeno.
They think 2:04 is a chestburster....
Lol, watch the movie be full of them after I've said all that.

I have a hard time believing the figure standing over Shaw is the SJ. It was my impression, given his size relative to the chair, that he was huge. A giant of a creature.
Even without the suit.
-
03-18-2012 #122
At first I thought you were right, but he may not be THAT big. The chair shot is a little deceiving.
Comparison:

Sj may still be bigger than them, I would even be surprised if he wasn't, but he may not be THAT big. Like only a few feet taller.
NOTE: There's a little green thing at the lower right, just behind him. This is a continuation of the shot you posted Vulgotha. This is how it activates the chair and it seems this is the pilot chair after all. At least by the screens, might turn out to be something else.Last edited by RedDragon7; 03-18-2012 at 09:10.

Based on the comments in this thread and some of the articles you guys posted, I have a theory on what this is about...you probably explained this yourselves in posts, but I just wanna re-confirm...
Ok, I'm assuming the Space Jockey kinda sets off the events for the very first Alien or Xeno evolution by the end of the film, right? I'm assuming SJ is the creator of their race?
Or he's not, and Weyland creates the first Xeno through experimentation? Sets up the new movie by asking a crew of engineers to go to the SJ site as seen in the first alien, and he puts an alien on board with them to test out his pet project?
-
03-18-2012 #124
I can't find it right now, but there are a few shots which illustrate just how massive the SJ is, all of them involve the Orrery (the chair room).
First, there is a shot out there from the development of Prometheus where Ridley Scott is standing in that room and he is tiny.
Second, there is the original footage from Alien where Dallas and co are walking around the SJ chair and then approach it. Again, hey are much, much smaller compared to the creature even with its suit on (they have suits too, though).
Third, there is another set of shots from Prometheus with David in the Orrery/chair room, and if you compare him to the relative height of the SJ in his own shots you come to the conclusion that they are huge.

Unless Ridley pulls a rather large unforeseen twist and Weyland is already behind the events of this movie. Perhaps implying Weyland planted certain things for the SJ's to work with. I highly doubt that, even go as far as to say it's farfetched. If SJ's created life and were on Earth before man, then they catch Weyland's attention and then he sends out for them, culminating in this movie.
Furthermore, the Xeno design is on their ship wall. SJ's would very much have to be the creators in that case.
Somewhere between Prometheus and Alien Weyland does find out about the Xenos and then sends out for them in Alien. They are his pet project in Alien, but he didn't create them.Or he's not, and Weyland creates the first Xeno through experimentation? Sets up the new movie by asking a crew of engineers to go to the SJ site as seen in the first alien, and he puts an alien on board with them to test out his pet project?
If you find some of the pictures, please post them. I'm very curious.
On an unrelated note: Where the hell does Peter Weyland come into this movie....? I don't see him in the trailer at all. Unless he's involved in Earth scenes recruiting the group which I always assumed he did. For them to list him in the credits though. Obviously the Earth scenes would be at the beginning of the movie, and possibly at the end, if Ridley leaves a trailer for the next one. I guess that's enough of a role to list him. I hoped he was part of the crew though, I'm too big of a fan for him to be in the background of this movie. Hmm...
Then again, with the crew most likely all being killed off it'll give him a chance to be in the next movies.
EDIT: Here's the highlights from the 30 min. Q&A as interpreted by the blogger
Right here, I'd like to throw in the other possibility. Remember Ridley is also going back to Blade Runner. We'll find out what he chooses possibly by the end of the year, maybe even fall. It was noted that he loved working on Prometheus as a sci-fi film, so it's not just Prometheus but the genre.Headlining the film’s panel were co-writer Damon Lindelof, director Ridley Scott, and Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender. As is typical with Con Q&A sessions, there was a good deal of fluff, but we’ve filtered all of that out for your reading pleasure.
In the midst of a question about the differences between working with CGI and practical effects, Ridley Scott began to delve into what he learned from his experience onPrometheus, but not before interjecting that he plans to make another science fiction film “as soon as possible.”
Will that next science fiction film be a sequel to Prometheus? He hinted as much earlier in the panel, mentioning that, “If we’re lucky, maybe there will be a second part to all of this. Because the film really does leave you with some really nice, big, open questions.”
Back to the topic at hand, Ridley explained that the freedom of digital animation actually “makes the challenge even more difficult” — not in terms of craft, but in terms of competition. The action and science fiction genres have become overstuffed, since digitally, “you can do anything you want”, compared to Scott’s early days on Alien where they just used a very tall man in a rubber suit.
Scott says that it all comes down to a baseline contest of, “How original are you going to be?”
And if Fassbender is to be believed, Prometheus might win. When asked what drew him to the project, he mentioned how “each page, there was something new and there was something unexplained. You could never put your finger on it.”
For those who don’t know, Fassbender plays David, an android who’s sort of a butler that serves the aircraft and the crew. In preparation for the role, Scott encouraged him to check out The Servant with Dirk Bogarde, among other films. Fassbender, meanwhile, saught inspiration elsewhere, weirdly looking to the humorous qualities and “economy of movement” of diver Greg Louganis.
This extends further to the “heart” of the character, so to speak, which has David confronting his understanding of humans. “Would that start to manifest itself in other forms? Would he start to develop his own personality traits and ego and insecurities? All the fun human stuff.”
When watching Prometheus, Fassbender wants you to continually ask yourself, “Is this guy taking the piss, or is he for real?”
Funny little rumor...
Btw, Fassbender answered... "Absolutely."The next question, they're all laughing over, "There are rumors that Fassbender's character gives birth to mankind in the film. Is that true?"
EDIT 2: Here's an international trailer. It gives a decent amount of the whole pictogram scene, and the rest of the trailer is radically different. The moment with Naomi at the mirror is loaded with various comments, commands, shouts... the one thing i do really enjoy about this version.
And I was wondering why they didn't mention Ridley's credits in the US version, they give him Gladiator and Blade Runner in this one. I guess Ridley is more known here than I thought?
The more I watch this one, I might like it more... David's comments are interesting. It's cool to get an idea of his character. And the tone of the trailer is more subtle than blaring screams. Might be the first time I've seen a US and international (UK) trailers that are nearly standalone.Last edited by RedDragon7; 03-19-2012 at 02:35.
