Holy shit... Starting from Peter Weyland's birth, through milestones of him and the company all the way up to 2073. Seriously, it goes from 1990 to 2073. Granted it skips a few years and 14 at the start, but seriously.
So there goes any doubt (not that there was much), he's the founder. And basically, he's in his 80's during the movie. Possibly 83 unless that doesn't include space travel. Although with all the stuff they are able to create and do, one would think 83 might be closer to 70's by that point. Hmm...... Or maybe that's just a sci-fi cliche.
EDIT: Here's the shot Blacksite (rim lighting can be really cool, defines the comp)

Prometheus is coming out of the box with Empire slated to hit shelves soon. Here's a couple key questions and comments from the cover story. Primarily the rating which isn't a shocker from what I've read previously.
"[I've wanted to revisit it for] years! Years, years, years," he stresses, of Alien's space traveller subplot. "I always wondered when they did [Aliens] 2,3 and 4 why they hadn't touched upon that, instead of evolving into some other fantastic story. They missed the biggest question of them all: who's the big guy? And where were they going? And with what? Why that cargo? There's all kinds of questions."
Another question for Scott is the film's rating. He hints that the violence may have been toned-down enough to facilitate a PG-13 rating, but intriguingly suggests that the impact will match the R-grade shocks of Alien and Aliens. "The question is, do you go for the PG-13, [which] financially makes quite a difference, or do you go for what it should be, which is R? Essentially, it's kinda R."
"It's not just about the blood, it's about ideas that are very stressful. I'm not an idiot, but I'll do everything I can to get the most aggressive film I can."

Well Lindelhof states he expects the movie to be 'R' but other people I've talked to state that it will prob be PG-13.

Lindelof is only a writer. Ridley made a deal with the studio. Bigger budget (rumored around 200 mill) and he dims the rating to PG-13. I would be very surprised to see this hit R. That only makes sense IMO, I mean think about it... do you see bigger budget rated R films? Never a big blockbuster goes to that extent. Limited audience from the rating doesn't haul in the same revenue.

Eh...
Scott wanted 250 million. He didn't get it. He also wanted an R-rating, and there is evidence it could go either way in that regard. I'd be a bit surprised if Fox literally said 'no' to Scott on every request he made.
Also Lindelhof may 'only' be the writer- but he's the damn writer lol. He's actively involved with Prometheus and is making the rounds with Scott on the press tour. So I'd take what he has to say seriously.
Edit: Maybe he did get the budget he asked for, but all the information I've seen up until now pointed towards a budget of 150 million.
Giger says the budget is 230 million swiss francs

This is roughly 250 million USD.Last edited by Vulgotha; 03-28-2012 at 18:24.

Here's a full quote to help clarify:
If someone wants to post these scans... err, is that frowned on in this forum? Don't remember. Anyway, someone can do that if its allowed. Here's a simple link... Prometheus has a full spread on Empire.Right now I don’t know where we are. The question is, do you go for the PG-13, or do you go for what it should be, which is R? Financially it makes quite a difference, or the risk makes quite a difference, and yet you also have to apply the question — if you soften it, will you financially suffer? As opposed to just going for the throat and gambling. Essentially, it’s kinda R. The little bastards will still get in anyway, so what’s the difference? It’s not just about blood, it’s about ideas that are very stressful. I’m not an idiot, but I’ll do everything I can to get the most aggressive film I can.

Omg... reading comments on these new sites. As if there's going to be no violence at all and the story will be altered. Really people? Go watch the movie in theaters, give the support it deserves and then watch it unrated at home. Boycotting is ONLY going to hurt the movie altogether. It's like they're disregarding what Ridley says.Last edited by RedDragon7; 03-29-2012 at 04:05.

I'm not sure, but if it is, I'll be sure to remove them.
A pretty long read though and it's getting late. I'll share my thoughts tomorrow.Steam & PlayStation Network: BlacksitePSU | 3DS Friend Code: 1349-4916-2054

Well, the cover story doesn't really mention anything new. It does mention the possibility of a sequel though if Prometheus performs well enough.

I only read the quotes, don't wanna spoil myself lol. Seeing that Blade Runner picture in the last scan reminds me of the documentary I watched on the Making of Blade Runner. It's 3 and a half hours and it's the most interesting film documentary you will ever see. The 12 Monkeys doc is very good too. I wonder if Ridley still has the same mindset as he did on Blade Runner. In one segment of that doc, he said something along the lines of "I'm the director, when I say something, do it, don't just ask questions, just do it, mate" .

I have the scans from the Empire interview.
Basically here's the lowdown:

No new information, and this has basically been said before but what the hell. For people interested in Lindelof's opinion it might be interesting:
Though we’ve been calling Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus an Alien prequel for some time now, some involved with the production have steadfastly insisted that the project isn’t a “true” prequel. In a recent interview with Ben Blacker for the Nerdist Writers Panel,Prometheus scribe Damon Lindelof explained exactly why he doesn’t consider the film a prequel, and for that matter, what his problem is with prequels in general. Blastrtranscribed the relevant portion of the 90-minute talk below:
The thing about a prequel is, as fascinating as it may to watch Anakin turn to the dark side of the Force, there’s an inevitability to it. You know when you go in the prequel can only cover A to Y and then Z is gonna be the preexisting material. You can’t end it in an exciting or surprising way. You can only end it in the inevitable way. …
When I went to go see The Thing prequel, for example, I’m assuming this movie is going to be the sequence of events that led up to a dog being infected by the Thing and then being chased by a helicopter across the frozen tundra — because I know then what happens next because I saw The Thing. And that’s exactly what it was. On a certain level, you’re satisfied because if you’re calling a movie a prequel, that’s what you’re expecting. On another level, you sort of walk out going, “Boy I wish there was a little bit more room for me to not exactly know what I was walking into.”
In my opinion, in order to define Prometheus as a prequel, Is it set in the Alienuniverse? … If you just watch the teaser trailer, and you see how the word Prometheus reveals itself … or look at the production design, you don’t need me to tell you anything.
So then the next question is: Is it a prequel to Alien? To that, I can’t really answer the question because my definition of prequel, the A-to-Y definition, I hope it’s not. I hope that this movie can be surprising. The ending of this movie; the sequel to Prometheus is not Alien. The sequel to Prometheus, if it does well and people like it, would be another movie that goes off in its own direction, that runs tangential to Alien.

besides the Hobbit and expendables 2, they really don't need to make any more movies this decade. looks fucking incredible

Intriguing theories. Not much to say otherwise... kind of a "whose knows..." reaction.
2 months to go (till we find out). ...well, +1 day.

I know that a widely accepted theory for the background of the Xenomorphs is that they were genetically engineered by the Space Jockeys, and we do see the design of a Xenomorph in one scene from the trailer, although I can't say it would be much of a twist for the movie if David ends up mutating into one of them. But we don't know anything about the squid-like creature that looks like it was taken out of Shaw in one scene and who exactly she was screaming at in another.

The jockeys creating the Xenomorphs is a given. What's really up in the air are the exact details... But one way or another they were engineered by the Jockeys, presumably as a weapon.

I thought this was interesting. Notice the similar markings in both shots?

It's strange.. I mean, the bald figure looks like the Jockey.. Almost. I mean we can only see his hand and head and from the shots we've seen so far those two parts of his body are 'fairly' human like... Or, it could be some humanoid prior to whatever final form of the jockey we've seen in the trailers.
Maybe it requires a host?

I'm not sure I buy David transforming into an a protoxenomorph. He's an android, how do you mutate an android? At least half the body is not biological. Even if most of that is synthetic I don't think it could be altered by a "virus". Unless the virus isn't a typical biological weapon, something that could be advanced enough to alter materials outside DNA.

At this point I'm not ruling out anything. I believe that the synthetics are using altered human DNA to a large degree, I'll have to look into it.
If true, it has interesting possibilities.
-
04-08-2012 #174
In that case, that's some kick-ass android technology. Truly is indistinguishable from humans.
