I agree with inconsistency. I have reported many many post that are clearly flaming/trolling and often they are by people with previous warnings, or who do it often, and it is just erased with nothing said. Same for the insults. Yeah I see many post edited about keeping insult out, but they always seem to be same people who constantly insult and never even get a simple infraction.

Yeah that's exactly why I decided against creating a new account. It was only a week so it wasn't worth it and thought I'd ask questions when I got back on. But no, I don't think there was an email on the PM

I'm pretty sure what he meant was that you should have been sent an email, and that staff members should include their email address so that you can communicate with them. Regardless, something needs to be done about the ability to communicate with the staff if you've been banned. Especially in a case where it wasn't justified at all, such as the Boy ban.

bottom line is, if you are going to be a staff member, then you have to give up the time to search the threads yourselves. You cant just rely on reports as 95% of the members here probably dont report because they cant be bothered.

Then I hope the 95% of members don't cry when there is a miscarriage of justice or someone gets away with something etc.
Like Gilly said, staff are human and there are times where we get stuff wrong. Personally, unless I am 100% sure I get a second opinion. Yes its more time consuming but that way I think we get a better outcome.

So you think the staff, who are all volunteers here including me, should detract from their RL jobs or life just so a member doesn't have to click a button and label a post as a rule violation? That is silly to want a staff member to give up hours of life so that a ten second report doesn't get made.
How hard is it to report? Really?
With the day to day stuff I do for this site of my own free will, not being compensated, my time is pretty much eaten up... same with Agriel and most of the mods. We do this in conjunction with real life jobs and commitments. Pretty much stating we should all drop everything else and go through each and every one of the 2000 posts per day is borderline offensive.
The alternative is we could make all threads, posts, and such require moderation before being posted. That would essentially kill the forums though, as everything would have to be reviewed and approved to go live.
Hence, the report button. You find something that looks like a rule violation, report it.
Staticneuron moved on a long time ago.
Your reports were reviewed and acted upon. Sending a note to the reporter is not required of staff, you should know that. The first report you posted yielded a deleted post and the offender was PM'd. The second, more recent report the member was expressing an opinion and not trolling. Those were the outcomes of the reports.

gotcha. more deleted posts... this is why I just stopped reporting stuff. Doesn't do any good. At least more and more people are becoming aware of those that are penalized, and those that aren't.
PSU couldn't stand to lose it's biggest PS3 fans for constantly breaking the rules. Thats my opinion.

Like I said, I don't read the Lens of Truth threads. But I read your post and the entire thread as well, and I saw it as trolling.
Perhaps it would have helped if the entire staff weighed in on your post, but that takes much longer and we run the risk of having other members reply to it, causing further trouble.
You get banned after you accumulate a certain amount of infraction points, so an infraction is not exclusive to a ban. For example, five points results in a 3-day ban and 10 points results in a 7-day ban (which is the value of a trolling infraction).
I suppose it was a mistake on my part to assume you understood how it all works, so I'll briefly explain it to future banned members.

It's always the same lol... a member get's unjustly penalized, while others go unpunished, I get into it with the staff... rinse, repeat. Why don't I learn? I'm going to repeat this following:
Use what you glean from hindsight to help you gain insight. Don't make the same mistakes. Time to reflect, and then move on.
.... every time I see something wrong, and try my best to move on and ignore it.

I just got back from a 30 day ban for something I felt was pretty petty. And theres no doubt that some members can post whatever they want with the worst thing happening is their post getting deleted. I provided a minor example in the link below. I state an opinion and a certain member quotes me and makes a snide comment insinuating that I'm just a fanboy. Another member quotes him and posts lol to signify his approval of what constitutes member harrassment imo. As you scroll further the second member comments on the topic and double cross disagrees with him so he straight up calls him a troll which I was under the impression was also against the rules. Again this is a very minor example but I'm not bothering to dig around for the much worse ones. http://www.psu.com/forums/showthread...eld-3-Analysis

I cannot find where these infraction points are situated and how many we accumulate I assume we are all at zero.
Another thing is the Forum Rules and Policies thread is halfway donw a long page so its not easily noticable.Last edited by keefy; 12-02-2011 at 00:25.

It doesn't do any good, and they aren't really interested in it. That's the cold hard fact about it.
I've done plenty to help.... when I was on staff, I did PLENTY to help. I've given away a lot of prizes to help. I've done some behind the scenes stuff to help...

Yes, you can see them in your UserCP, and in your postbit you can see how many infractions/points you have active.

guys, it isn't because staff don't care, it's because there isn't an issue we CAN fix.
I can't make all staff have the same views, can't make them all go through threads and posts, can 't make them enforce rules the same. So what do you propose we fix? Nothing. We can't. The only way to make sure moderation is the same across the board is to make ONE moderator and fire the rest. That one mod would be responsible for everything so that reports and infractions are handled the same. Even then though you will get days when he is pissed, or happy and the rules will still have some fluctuation.
The only real, viable solution is to use the report system and just deal with the fact that you are not always going to get stuff handled the way you THINK it should be. If you have a valid argument to make about infractions handed to YOU not for other people, that it their fight, then PM a mod or admin. It isn't anyone's job to fight for other members.
we have reduced the level of inconsistent moderation by putting certain criteria in place, certain procedures... but it cannot be eradicated. I am guilty of it, so is every other mod, it is called being human. Certain days, certain posts will hit us wrong, some days it wouldn't. Sorry, that's how it is and it won't change. It can't change. It would be like trying to rewire a human beings mind.
Since there is really nothing else to say, and I am in the mood to close this, I am going to. We get the point. People who get infracted feel persecuted while other people who don't have reported posts skate by.
