    Guy sues his hostages

    A man who held a Kansas couple hostage in their home while fleeing from authorities is suing them, claiming they broke an oral contract made when he promised them money in exchange for hiding him from police. The couple has asked a judge to dismiss the suit.
    It is short article so no need for an entire quote. This is sad and a good example of how messed up our sueing laws are, which btw there are none anyone can be sued for anything here in the US.

    Oh my. If common sense doesn't prevail here, I will be astonished, well, sadly not as astonished as I should be...

    I hate the whole equal force $#@! too. Why someone that decides to break the law by say, breaking into someone's home is still protected by the law is ridiculous.

    This. This guy should have 10 more years added onto his sentence for doing what he did. Instead he is a plaintiff and not a defendant.

    Well if what he's saying is true than they did break the law. Regardless of who did what, breaking a contract is against the law.. The only way I can see this not being illegal is if there is a law that says you can't pressure/threaten someone into a contract .

    Note: I'm not a lawyer (obviously). It should be interesting to see how this plays out.

    Without a 3rd party present the contract as far as law goes is meaningless I believe. Not certain on this but I believe that is how it works.

    Lol...so true. Small claims is different. I studied law last semester but I retained maybe 5% of it. I'm sure since this guy is a criminal this will be different. Sadly enough this claim is just like the joke they make about in Liar Liar. A burglar falls through a skylight and cuts his leg on a butcher knife and sues the owner and wins. They will probably get in trouble in the end too for harboring a fugitive. But is was only until he went to sleep from what I could understand. Who knows but this is one F'ed up situation.

    I don't think contracts are legal if they are done for illegal matters. For example, it was illegal for the people to hide the man from police, so the contract should never have been valid anyway. Plus, the people should just be able to say they agreed to the contract because of threats, etc.

    I held a gun to a hostage and forcing her into a oral contract and then she broke that oral contract by calling the police. I'M GONNA SUE THAT #[email protected]&%!!!
