It's great that the current generation is running longer and saving us from having to buy new consoles again, but it's also causing games to stagnate. Typically, in the first half of the generation you get all the new IPs. When the PS3 was fairly new, we got new stuff like Uncharted, Resistance, LittleBigPlanet and other third party stuff like Dead Space and Assassin's Creed. Now that we're in the back half of this console generation, everyone's in sequel mode. There were some good games this fall, but pretty much all of them were sequels (most of them the third game in their franchise). I'm looking forward to the next generation starting up because I want to see some creative new stuff/risks taken again.

This 100%
Sony are bringing a few new IPs in 2012 but most games are now sequels. Everything seems to get sequels nowadays, probably because its less risky and its only going to get worse as development costs go up and up and up. Another reason why I would rather next gen held off while development prices reduce a little.

I Completely agree AaronSOLDIER
In the past month I got: Resistance 3, Battlefield 3, Gears 3, MW3, AC: Revelations, RF Armageddon.
Anyone see the pattern here?Almost everyone will say: buy console that has games that you want, and those who say otherwise are ignorant.

Playstation Move for the win!

Prepare for meltdowns if these next gen console rumors are true. Phase 1: Denial. Phase 2: Mask a lie under "opinion" vs a fact. Phase 3: Bring up the good ol' days when it has nothing to do with the subject. Phase 4: Say that the power gap doesn't matter but constantly defend the specs.

Source.Last week Sony revealed a URL on their EU blog site. The URL took you to a rather mysterious page which simply had a speech bubble with a running count down timer. Two days ago the timer finally elapsed to reveal a teaser trailer. The teaser showed a TV playing some kind of video that was distorted with static and once again had a count down timer. This timer elapsed yesterday and the mystery was finally revealed with a trailer announcing the man who would be making an important announcement that we "wouldn't believe". This morning he uploaded a video to the official Playstation youtube channel, and after recapping recent PS3 news, announced that Sony would be making an amazing announcement at the VGAs this weekend.
Ok, I have brought this announcement saga to an epic, fulfilling and satisfying end. Lets move on!PSU GHOST SYNDICATE - DUST 514 Media HUB - Podcast - BLOG (Soon™)

This thread just saved my life. I told you guys I'd forget about the VGA's, but thanks to this thread, I was reminded. Time to record it in anticipation of me forgetting again.

For people who play online and want stable, working voice chat, yes it is.
If voice chat offered by the majority of games was any good it would not be such a big issue, but voice chat is horrible on many games. Especially EA games, and I play BF and Fifa online a lot. As do loads of other people. It also makes getting a squad/team together a piece of cake, compared to the protracted and painful experience it often is when you are trying to organise something via the text box or messages.

no...
if you make a successful new IP, then people will want the 2nd, the 3rd etc etc and if your dev is doing that sequel, it aint gonna have time to work on new IP?
just look at PS3 exclusives, those devs just cant spend the time on new IP because we want the next InFamous or Uncharted etc.
