At a recent Sony Vita event, a spokesperson for Sony claimed Vita PSN games would be around 40% cheaper than their retail counterparts. According to the rep, the lack of hardware and packaging can be thanked for the price drop.
I was told that games would be capped at $39.99 retail. While the same game would go for around $23 if you downloaded it. A price drop for downloadable games was already confirmed for the Japanese market, but it’s not as significant as the US. In Japan, retail titles are reported to go for as high as $50 with a PSN equivalent of $40. This is only a 20% drop where the US would be 40%.
If this is true, it makes the ridiculous prices for Vita memory cards a little more tolerable. (4GB: $30, 8GB: $45, 16GB: $70, 32GB: $120) If you’re saving around $15 a game, you only need to buy 8 games from the PSN to have that 32GB card paid for.
Take all this with a grain of salt though, as this has not been confirmed by Sony corporate. Also, with a price drop this significant, I can foresee retailers having an issue with this as it gives consumers a reason not to buy from the store. We’ll find out more as we get closer to launch. If this does hold up, I will definitely be picking a larger than anticipated memory card.
That's how it should be, and if they are $25 (I'd imagine they round them up), that's a good saving if you're buying quite a few games and makes up for the memory card prices for me. Just hope ALL games get put on the Store day 1 with this unlike PSP, they need to make it mandatory for devs.

If true then that's great. I love my phsyical cards/blurays but with the Vita I think just having everything on the card will just be a lot more convenient. I think my first couple games will be on card-based but I see myself downloading most of them
I think they confirmed that all games will be on the store on their release days so they're really pushing DD with the Vita, makes total sense

Digital copies are far easier to emulate next generation too.
If the price is cheap enough I'd be really keen on this.

'bout time... this is how it should have been all along. They need to now put their money where their mouth is and start lowering the prices on all the digital download games.

Overcharge for the memory cards and then lower the PSN Vita game prices by a huge chunk. This is one epic Jedi mind trick to play on consumers.

Yeah that's what I plan to do, jusr use my PS3 as a 'hub' for Vita games and whenever I wanna swap out some games just connect vita to ps3 -> transfer, done
Noone is gonna buy a multitude of these over priced cards lol. Though I'm probably wrong, people pay a shitload for 'convenience' =P

I prefer physical copies. It sucks the physical copies can't be the same price as digital copies.

This is great, it is what it should been all along. Don't like seeing a digital game the same price or more as a physical copy after say it would cost less.

When infamous 2 is still 59.99 on PSN, you already know this is just a false rumour lol.

If they do this the retailers will be pissed and in the end just not stock the games, sadly the retailers still got all publishers by their balls.

Yeah the store prices are fucked up. I think I saw black ops on there recently for like £49.99 lol. I foresee the store getting a makeover for the Vita launch in the respective territories. Atleast I'm hoping for a makeover - but it'll probably just be the Vita section of the store(s) that gets taken much more care of rather than everything
