casual gamers/motion gaming is destroying the core of the videogaming industry. no true fan of 360 wanteds microsoft to go the kinect route. no true fan of ps3 wanted sony to go the move route. these companies just saw the wii and how it grabbed an audience base and went that route to grab a piece of the pie.

I'm a Sony fan and I wanted them to go down the Move route. Sonys technology allows it to be used in core games as an additional control option (which I personally prefer and find way more accurate). I don't really see how it's destroying the core of the gaming industry when you are offering your customers more control options. Of course 360 fans have suffered at the hands of MS advance on the casuals with kinect, but Sony is doing well in my books. KZ3, Resistance 3, SOCOM 4, inFamous 2, Child of Eden plus more all kick ass with Move, and there are plenty of upcoming core titles that will support it too (Counter Strike, Sorcery, Dust 514, Bioshock Infinite + way more).

I respectfully disagree with that... I don't think anyone on either side is really suffering. Kinect may lack some hardcore titles but when it comes to developing a game strictly for both, they are like night and day. Move is still essentially a controller. Therefore it still has all the basic functions of a regular DS3. With Kinect that has been taken away and has to be mapped in a way that works the best with gameplay. Also there is a higher percentage of titles that require kinect than there is of move.

I have to agree with Substance. The 360 has lost ZERO focus on the core. In fact, it's been just the opposite. The number of core games coming out continues to pile up. Kinect (as well as Move) is just a bonus for the NON core gamers that wanted to get into gaming. There is indeed room for both, and both are optional. It's great that we have options, but it's also great that the core hasn't suffered on either side. I have actually considered slowing down on buying games lately because I am buying them in record numbers.

I don't see how you can say Microsoft hasn't lost focus on the core when Microsoft only released four core games this year.
Gears
Halo
Forza
Fable
Unless I've missed some games that Microsoft has released.
Third party devs haven't lost focus for sure though. Microsoft, they've definitely shown this year, core games from them are few and far between.

The only reason 360s core aren't suffering is because 3rd party saved the day. If it weren't for this years stellar line up, the core would have 4 games this year on 360. As far as the higher percentage of kinect games, I would rather a lower percentage of games that require Move, with core games a plenty (which is what we have, and are continually getting). Kinect is great tech, just ahead of its time.
Again, its the 3rd party devs who haven't lost focus on the core. MS has been amping out these casual kinect games. These games you speak of buying, and of reducing the purchase of...are they core 360 exclusives? As F34R states below, there have only been 4 core this year.
This. It is a shame imo. I really want to get a 360 but I simply cannot on the premise of principle. As amazing as the 360 is in terms of online functionality, I find their abandonment of the core gamers awful in the light of the competition. I cannot vote with my wallet for a company that has better sales and is richer than Sony, yet doesn't invest in games to cater for the very gamers who put them on the map. Sony has had over a dozen exclusives this year, and next year they already have 10 great titles announced.Last edited by Ghost-Rhayne; 12-16-2011 at 05:51.

I think motion controls ARE gonna happen no matter what. That's why I hope if it does happen, it happens somewhat like Wii-U (but not exactly that way) and Vita (more like this but will need to represent home consoles rather than handhelds).

Luckily the 360 hasn't abandoned the core IMO. If they did I wouldn't be gaming on it and spending more money on it for core gaming than I have since I started gaming 30 plus years ago. Great exclusives and great multiplatform titles has really been a great win for me on the 360 this gen. My PS3 has also been very good for the exclusives I have bought for it. Granted the PS3 doesn't have the IPs that I entirely prefer, but it has some that I can't live without. Heavy Rain, Uncharted, GT and SOCOM.
