give it about 5 to 6 years and you will be whistling a different tune. I wasn't that into christmas at all from 20 to 28. I love Christmas now, but that's probably because of kids also. either way, I like the holiday music and the atmosphere it gives.

For people who aren't like you, Christmas is a pagan holiday that Christians rebranded as their own in order to make it easier to coerce people into conversion. Jesus wasn't born on Christmas, and Christmas really never had anything to do with Christ.
Yule logs, Yule singing (caroling) christmas trees, giving presents, music, Christmas Cards, etc.... all Pagan in origin.
So remember what December 25th is really all about, and have a happy Dies Natalis Solis Invicti .

I like it. I have two kids (4 and 5) so seeing them get excited and happy is really a great feeling. My wife and I don't spend a bunch on presents for them either because they get so much stuff from the grandparents/aunts/uncles/etc. I also enjoy getting a few gifts, even though it's not much but it's nice.
I don't much care for the music and am certainly not religious at all, but I don't let it ruin the time with family, gifts, good food, etc.

I'm not liking the Christmas time much anymore. It doesn't even seem like the holidays, yet Christmas is right around the corner. Also, Christmas is supposed to be about the Birth of Christ, not a fat drunk in red who gives us anything we want. Besides, I've been grounded the last two Christmas breaks, so I could care less about the holiday now besides the fact that I spend time with family.

Unlike todays mainstream Christianity who have adopted MANY pagan practices into their worship, the Christians of the new testament times kept 7 holy days which celebrated and outlined Gods plan for mankind.
"Do NOT inquire after their gods, saying 'How did these nations serve their gods? I also will do likewise.' You shall NOT worship the Lord your God in that way; for every abomination to the Lord which He hates have they done to their gods" (Deuteronomy 12:30–31).
Thus says the LORD: “ Do not learn the way of the Gentiles; Do not be dismayed at the signs of heaven, For the Gentiles are dismayed at them.3 For the customs of the peoples are futile; For one cuts a tree from the forest, The work of the hands of the workman, with the ax. 4 They decorate it with silver and gold; They fasten it with nails and hammers So that it will not topple. (Jeremiah 10:2-4)
Sound familiar? :P Same with Easter. This festival is a mix of pagan festivals too. Easter is derived from Ishtar, who was the goddess of sex and fertility. Eggs and bunnies were symbols of fertility and new life. Even the Christian aspect of this holiday is whack, but I wont go into this.
Basically, people argue that Christmas is OK because itis about being together with family (which is nice) but to peg any kind of religious observance to it goes against what God laid forth in the Bible, as well as the example set by Jesus, the apostles and the early new testament church. NOWHERE in the Bible are we commanded to commemorate the birth of Jesus. If you can find me a scripture where God says it is ok to worship him using pagan customs and festivals I would love to see it. Jesus condemned the people for following the traditions of man instead of the Word of God, and when it comes to mainstream christian holidays, that's just what they are, traditions of man with a hefty dose of pagan symbolism.
Edit: I am not going to discuss this further in here, but will gladly continue in PMs. (don't want to derail thread)

I enjoy christmas but not for religious purposes...after all, how can you celebrate the birth of someone who didn't exist? time and space go hand in hand, so before the big bang, there was nothing. we are all people of space.

christmas rocks. slap on some jingle cats and down some eggnog. love the weather, love the food. love the gifts, everyone is home from college, or just from abroad. ugly sweater parties, used to get like 2 weeks off from school. New years is around the corner, the trees smell amazing. blah blah blah.

Let's be honest: You sleep with anything that walks on two legs. Sometimes, you're not even that discriminating

Somewhere in my early-mid college years, I really started to not care about Christmas. I've really gotten back into over the past couple years, though. It does kind of lose the "magic" when you get older, but I think you eventually get past that and just enjoy getting to see your family, the good food, etc. It also doesn't hurt if you like the weather around this time of year. I don't care about the religion side of it whatsoever, but if that gives other people a reason to like the holiday, more power to them.

I think you and Versus are being a bit defensive.
If he can't say Jesus never existed you can't say that he did.
or
He can say that he didn't, and you can say that he did. So everyone gets to have their opinion.
But this isn't meant to be about religion, it's meant to be about Christmas (no matter what you believe), Christmas as it is, as we know it... so can we just keep it light for now people?

I clearly made this topic NOT for religous purposes for or against Christmas. I stated more social reasons for not being so much into the holiday. I didn't go on some religous bashing rant. His post came off as some random cheap shot at bashing believers which is something this topic has nothing to do with. Or at least a direction I didn't really intend on it taking because that's gets into a whole new discussion I'm not quite comfortable with having with people.

I'm not even a Christian and I love Christmas. It's the only holiday that's fun now. We have something similar called Eid (where you get money instead of gifts...people keep it to-the-point over there) but obviously not a lot of Muslims here so there's practically no celebration.
I don't see a problem with celebrating something as long as you're not worshiping or praying something.
I understand some points the OP made but overall, I love Christmas time and I'm a sucker for 40s and 50s music. In fact, I don't like anything after the 80s...if I do, it's rare.
EDIT: This is so good:
I like "Let it snow" too. Actually pretty much all Christmas songs from that era and generally all music from that time.
I've lost all respect for you lol.Last edited by Sufi; 12-09-2011 at 19:44.

Yea what I'm saying. I've also went through 3+ years of retail through the holidays and that willl really make you not look forward to the holidays.
I wish I knew somebody that would give me just one nice gift but I really don't. I don't know anyone that I could give one good gift too either :/

I agree with the OP fully. I been working in the grocery business for 7 years now and when Thanksgiving and Xmas come around everybody is under stress. I work the graveyard shift stocking shelfs everybody up front complains about how busy it is but they don't realize we are first in line to get the brute work when the boss comes in at 6am. They either don't send enough product and we run out or they send way too much and we dont sell it then we are stuck with it. Its also the holiday rush aspect, you have people that shop at my store 2-3 times a week and all of a sudden the holidays come and they don't know where anything is. Another thing is there is a change in the customers attitudes too when they are rushing to get in and out they become really nasty when they don't get or can't get what they want...and im supposed to keep a straight face and smile.

I consider myself a Christian but I'm not going to get into religion here as some people have already said, this is more about the social aspect.
To be honest, I haven't been into Christmas since I was about 18/19 or so. I'm 27 now, and it hasn't felt the same since I was a teenager.
I know it's a cliche probably, but it just doesn't have the same feeling anymore. When you're a kid, it's just much more exciting, at least to me. Writing your Christmas list, waking your parents up at some ungodly hour, opening presents, seeing family. I enjoy the chance to spend time with family, but to be honest, no one seems to make any effort anymore. I mostly spend the holidays playing games or working out.
I always used to enjoy seeing my cousins since we were always close, but since their parents (my uncle and aunt) moved to America, we don't get to see them much anymore. I still see my cousins at X-Mas, but last year I didn't even get to see my uncle and aunt during that time since they were too busy with other stuff. We also used to have large family gatherings with my mum's side of the family, but that fizzled out too.
I enjoy having the chance just to chill, and I need the break from PSU and looking at a computer for 8 hours a day after a hard year's work, but the magic's gone for me sadly.
