Hey guys need some help here. I found a Boxing Day deal for a 43" Samsung for $300, but I'm aware of the plasma/video game stigma. Can anyone tell me if Plasmas have advanced where screen burn hasn't become an issue. If anyone can tell me why I shouldn't get this let me know, because it's a stellar deal.

I just sold my new Samsung 50" Plasma 8 series because of the horrible screen retention. I was constantly feeling like I had to babysit my tv. Always shutting it off when I went to the bathroom etc. The burn is only temporary but it drove me crazy.

See that's what I'm worried about, and I'm really bad about leaving the room with just the lobby screen up. In the end though I don't have a huge budget and my 24" screen just isn't enough anymore.

I think that's what I need to hear. So did you graduate to LED or LCD? I'm most concerned about a good gaming experience, TV is hit or miss either way and most movies look good off the bluray on most tvs.

Panasonic T54G25 (54", THX, 600Mhz dual field) with HD DRV, PS3... and soon X360 and Apple TV. No worries, it has anti-retention technology for static images, broke it in correctly, and nothing beats plasma for color reproduction, deep, dark blacks, etc.

used a plasma for four years before it was struck down by the Gods. Never had any issues with burn in. Screen retention every now and then but it went away within a few mins after changing the picture.

Been using a 50" Plasma for 3 years now... no issues whatsoever... picture is amazing.

I am stunned that some people appear to love their Playstation(1,2,3) or Xbox(360) more than I love the Denver Broncos.
Trust me, it's sad

Hey guys so I bought my TV on Boxing day. Its a entry level 43in Samsung Plasma for $299, so far I'm completely satisfied. As long as I can get a couple good years out of it I'll be happy. I've been doing everything right so far, I have the pixel shifting enabled and have been breaking it in pretty steadily. The only downside is that it required waking up at 5am to get in line for it.

Hahaha, I kind of though about doing a PChop of something like that, but no time and the content would have been questionable

On topic: I did run our G25 at the prescribed settings for the first ~100 hours of use, and made sure all content was full screen, and also ran during the first 24-48 hours, the "break in" slides (full screen, wide range of solid colors) in the evenings for hours at a time."Remember, you're young only once but you can be immature forever."

I don't know about you, but I treat all my stuff properly. I could own something meant to withstand explosive blasts and I would still baby it.
The more expensive an item is the more precautions I take using/handling it.
If you properly break in and set up a plasma tv, you will have nothing to worry about unless you intentionally set out to induce burn in.
