Reviews:Firaxis, the developer behind Civilization, is working on XCOM: Enemy Unknown, a 'reimagining' of the beloved PC strategy game.
The President of Firaxis Games, Steve Martin said "It's been a dream of ours to recreate X-COM with our unique creative vision. We're huge fans of the original game and it's a once in a lifetime opportunity to re-envision a game that is as beloved as XCOM.
"We were careful to keep XCOM: Enemy Unknown true to the elements that made X-COM such a revered game while delivering an entirely new story and gameplay experience for both die-hard X-COM fans and newcomers to the franchise."
The announcement comes via Game Informer, which said that the new game seeks to introduce "a wider console audience to what made the storied franchise great in the first place."
Details are understandably scarce, but Firaxis' interpretation will feature destructible environments, and a blend of turn-based combat and real-time strategy.
The game is due to be released on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this autumn.
First review is out - Game Informer gave it a 9.5/10.
A Remake That Lives Up To Its Legendary Provenance
PSU - 8.5/10Both of XCOM’s layers present life-or-death conundrums to which there is no right answer. No matter what you pick, something or someone is going to suffer for it. This kind of tension and terror rarely occurs within mainstream gaming, and almost never with this level of skill in the execution. Don’t let the “turn-based strategy” moniker scare you off; XCOM is a singular achievement that every gamer deserves to experience.
