Final Fantasy XIII-2 demo thoughts

Has anyone tried the new demo that didn't like 13? I, personally, was able to get around the issues with 13 after a year of being frustrated and being away from it. With that in mind, I was excited for XIII-2 before this demo launched. I would like to know the opinion of those who tried this demo after disliking Final Fantasy 13 to see what they think of some of the changes.

I'll repost this:

I just finished the demo. It's still a joke. The combat still as thoughtless as before. The puzzles/challenges is just a simple, very simple, board game. The main antagonist of the story is even more ridiculous than the one in FFXIII. And I ran into very little existence of these towns of theirs. The exploration is a bit better but not much at all. The Live decision making thing isn't anything worth caring about.
Just like FFXIII, the only redeeming qualities are the graphics and music.

I hope it improves upon FFXIII. Wasn't a fan of the combat system, but the graphics and audio were pretty fantastic. Need to check the demo for sure.

One of our writers, Andrew Jerman, had this to say about FF13. I couldn't agree more:

"Count me in the "I hate 13" pool. The game was structured in such a way that it played for you. The auto-battle option always picked what I would have picked early on in the game, so I was conditioned to use it and didn't learn the mechanics. Thus, later on when the game became more difficult and required more direct control, I hit a brick wall on normal enemies. Also, the tutorials and hand-holding for 20 hours was absurd. The game didn't even open up after 20 hours, the hallway just became more wide. The story was a complete anime melodrama disaster, where 90% of the script was comprised of dumb made up terms that were poorly explained in-game. Pulse? l'cie? fal'cie? Cocoon? C'eith? Focus? None of this stuff is ever clearly established (and an in-game encyclopedia shouldn't exist to explain things to you, it should back up things you've learned contextually in the actual game) and so the setting is never clearly established. The setting is also a visual mess; it's made up of technological flashiness, lights, machines, and all kinds of nonsense that is totally indecipherable. Honestly, I could write a novel about how problematic FF13 is. The only things I liked about it were the very catchy battle theme and the animated faces in the menu."

Quit the bullshitting, no one here is saying that..but from what a lot of people are saying here is sounds more like "Square Enix can do no right"..now that is definitely a pile of shit. They are trying and XIII-2 is definitely proof of that with the amount of stuff they have fixed.

Really? I'm sure a lot of people here are looking forward to Final Fantasy Versus XIII, myself included. Final Fantasy XIII and its sequel just so happen to be in the hands of an incompetent director.

Just played the demo. I think it will be a better game than final fantasy 13 was, but it won't amount to more then that. If you enjoyed the first then you might like this game. But it's not going to win over anyone else. Especially those who miss square soft.

The crazy thing is that the Xbox version of the demo is just ugly. It comes off like a lazier port than FFXIII, but instead of ugly cutscenes, it's just ugly graphics. It's almost like they are intentionally trying to make the Xbox version inferior or something. Wtf?...

played the demo, and for the record my fav FF's are VII, VIII & X
I was trying to justify my( has Sony removed the pound sign off the PS3 virtual keyboard? ) 80 pound purchase of the crystal edition.......and I'm keeping my pre-order.
This is the FF we wanted, thou don't think you'll be visiting towns in the demo, this is kinda like the VIII demo SE put out in 98, it's a action/mission part of the game, but you have got O'Aka type character in this demo to sell you things so alll is good
Npc's ranged from XIII's active convo's as you walk by them to the traditional press x to speak, one addition to the npc's are side missions
Some will ask for help or give you a job to do which which then will be added to your current mission,
The battle system has changed....slightly with new system which allows you to capture & tame monsters to use in battle as support ( like another member of team )
From there you can name( Yes you can name your monster ) and upgrade their abilities, and each monster has a kinda limit break attack, which I think will be like summons attacks with the bigger monsters, you can also add accessories just like your main characters.
I put a baseball cap on one of my monsters lol.
The battle system also now has cinematic QTE, but they ain't bad, so don't worry.
And finally! remember in FFXIII when it was game over when only the character you're in control of dies & the rest of the team is still alive and kicking? fixed
Now it's switches to another member, Thank god cuz that was annoying.
Graphically speaking the game is luscious to look at, and as I'm currently playing FFXIII too, XIII-2 is better looking......or maybe more the same but smoother in some spots.
although I have heard some people say the graphics are worse, thats total BS, same with framerate... I heard some people say 15fps, seriously 15 fps with rain effects would be choppy as fuck. people are imagining things

Nice to have some proper well thought out oppinions on the game, can't wait to play the demo. Im sure I'll be placing my preorder after I play the demo.
