Imho CryEngine 3.0 is probably my favorite engine so far. Amazing.

I'm not a dev, but I've made a ton of my own stuff. I've done quite a bit with ZBrush, Blender, AutoDesk programs, GTKRadiant, Unreal Engine, and Cryengine. Cryengine is definitely the best level creator in my experience, especially for tropical scenes as the vegetation generator really comes in handy.

do we really know if this engine and ones like it, will they be actually used for any next gen or more powerful P.C's... If so when and how much will it cost for a game to use this tech

CryEngine 3.0 is already available on the PC man. You can download the editor for free.

Crysis 2 looks great on the PC I can assure that from personal experience.. It uses CryEngine 3.0

When they released the DX11 patch and high res texture pack Crysis 2 looked fucking astounding.

Thinking about it I'd say C2 on ultra looks better than BF3 on ultra, imo and thinking through rose tinted spectacles

From what I have seen of Crysis 2 hi res and what I have played of BF3 Crysis 2 is in another league, BF3 isnt all that great graphics its mostly bloom and blur and a shitty colour pallette.

In all honesty, I'm more impressed with Frostbite's technology regarding procedural generation and real-time GL techniques. I wish BF3 had full screen/object motion blur tho. Cryengine 4 needs more advanced procedural generation model as it will allow for amazing things to come in the next generation.

I would imagine that a lot of the most powerful graphics cards on the market, like the GTX 580, that can run games like Crysis 2 with DirectX 11 graphical capabilities should go down to a really affordable price by the time Sony and Microsoft release their next-generation home consoles. No doubt something better will come along by then for PC gamers.

By 2013 (when next consoles should arrive) the Nvidia Maxwell GPUs will be released. These are approximately 7.6 times more powerful than fermi GPUs (gtx 500 series) and the maxwell gpus will most probably be what the next gen consoles have inside them.

First third-party game officially running on Cryengine 3! It seems EA is helping them out so I hope Crytek can get more devs onboard!

If this would run on a regular computer i would be really impressed but as you need a powerful hardware for this engine nothing really impresses me.

This does run on a regular computer as does Crysis 2. And this demo is probably running on consoles as well tho.

Project D is the only one which uses Cry Engine 3 the others use the old 2.0 and im pretty sure Project D on that video ran on a monster pc.

It will sill run on a "regular" PC. Any Dual core and any ?150 Graphics card will run it max settings.
I played Crysis 2 on max with E8400 4GB RAM, ATI 5770 30FPS the setup cost me around ?300
If ou want 60FPS or more then you need to spend more money.

Project D doesn't require a monster PC either surprisingly enough. It's on the same level as Crysis 2 minus the tessellation. Those wheat fields were fucking gorgeous tho!

    Check this out tho:

Nexuiz looks pretty good, I used to play it from time to time, can still get it for free but I don't think its updated any more which makes sense.

I can imagine what resolution you were using to make Crysis 2 run on those specs.

I get the impression you think PC gaming needs super computers that cost thousands.

Cryengine 3 runs very well on PC contrary to what most think, and that is thanks to the console optimizations that ultimately reflected in the PC variant of the engine. Tessellation is the only truly demanding aspect of Crysis 2, and the tessellation was definitely overused for the sake of turning the game into a benchmarking tool. You would not believe all the things that are tessellated in Crysis 2; it was quite unnecessary.
