Not really cry engine 3 but still look incredible.

I've been playing syndicate on the 360 and TBH i thought it would have looked better, since its from the CE3. Textures look flat, lighting is average and nothing compared to crysis 2.

Can we expect mods for this game on the PC version? still had some fun playing it and might buy it, on the PC of-course because of the better quality graphics and better FPS.

    Does Syndicate really use CE3?

E: Nope, it's still their inhouse engine.

Textures are flat in Syndicate bcuz the game did not have as much optimization as Crysis 2. They chose to reduce the textures to preserve the framerate.

That is weird, yesterday i could find a few links saying it was using cry engine 3 but now nothing says it.

I think i was thinking of warfare before, not syndicate

The demo should tell you if a woman says "achieved with cry engine 3" then its very likely made with cry engine 3.

Definitely true. I kept wondering why it did not show that Cryengine logo, and now I guess I know why. I guess you can see the resemblance to their old engine but it is definitely been changed. A lot of things in Syndicate resemble Crysis 2 for sure tho.

Starbreeze's homepage states that Project Redlime(aka Syndicate) still uses their engine.

E: A bit on-topic as well. The woods in one of the vids looks unreal.

Why does Crysis require better hardware than Crysis 2 ?

Bcuz Crysis 2 runs on Cryengine 3 which is better coded and optimized. So even tho Cryengine 3 surpasses Cryengine 2 technically, it is still much less demanding. That and the jungle requires more RAM to store assets.

My guess is that Crysis also could be displaying a generally higher polygon count, due to jungles being more geometrically complex than buildings. As far as I know, the original version of Crysis 2 also lacked a few features that were included in Crysis, for example parallax occlusion mapping. It was reintroduced with the DirectX 11 patch. However, with the DirectX 11 patch, the Crysis 2 is actually more demanding than the original. I think that's mostly due to the over-used tessellation, though.

The poly count in Crysis is actually not high as you think. The trees are just five six-poly palm leaves on a stick. And the set draw distance takes care of any detail outside of a set range. The destroyed city is a lot of detail to the mounds of debris, etc, versus flat polys extending for miles on end as seen in Crysis.

Tho I have used Cryengine 3 to make some jungle maps and it does indeed run better than expected.

Well, I didn't say it was all that high, just that I thought it might be higher than Crysis 2. Crysis at "Very High" is often around 2 million polygons per frame and sometimes around 3 million and I believe that's a pretty decent polygon count.

Would be great to see some of the Crysis maps running in CE3, with roughly equal detail levels, for a comparison of engine efficiency.

Well, I never said you said was all that high. But yeah, Cryengine 3 is a lot more efficient in a lot of good ways. A lot of the optimization put into the console code of engine paid off for the PC code as well.

What i would like to see in future cry engines are better and more realistic animations and models.

The models are not really dependent on the engine. The engine is already capable of high enough polygon counts for detailed models. Hell, I still consider the original Crysis' main characters to be some of the best I've seen in any game.

Here's a (corny) example of what CryEngine 2 could do. I'd rate the overall model and animation quality as higher than the average level of today's games:

Still a lot of room for improvement, though.

Cryengine definitely has a lot of advanced animation technologies as does Frostbite. And Cryengine 2/3 has a very realistic way of rendering things on top of having SSS for skin.

They say "The gap between this generation and the next won't be as big as a jump"

That looked pretty sweet! If anyone thinks that the jump between now and a year or so isn't going to be that big they deserve to have sand thrown in their eyes.
