Tetsuya Nomura talks Final Fantasy Versus XIII
SourceTetsuya Nomura provided new information for a couple of Square Enix titles in the latest Famitsu. He briefly discussed Final Fantasy X, and brought along some slighty more significant news for Versus XIII.
Nomura shared the following details with Famitsu:
- Game has improved a great deal since it was shown in trailer form last January
- Graphics have been improved
- Real-time rendering improvement
- Ratio of in-game (real time) and pre-rendered cutscene events is 7:3
- Visual Works making pre-rendered cutscenes
- Cutscenes won?t interfere with gameplay
- Scene in which Noctis encounters Stella is now pre-rendered (this way it won?t interfere with gameplay)
Nomura wouldn?t reveal when we?ll next see Final Fantasy Versus XIII. He is hoping to show the game running on the PlayStation 3 when Square Enix is ready, though.
Square Enix?s 1st Production Department team is working on Final Fantasy X for PS3/Vita
SourceSquare Enix has shared very little information about Final Fantasy X for the PlayStation 3/Vita. Tetsuya Nomura did provide a new tidbit in the latest Famitsu, however.
According to Nomura, Square Enix?s 1st Production Department group is working on the project. This is the same team behind the Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy titles (including Versus XIII).
So, if anything, fans shouldn?t worry too much about the port/remake as it?s in capable hands.
Not a lot of info but better then nothing![]()

Isn't Toriyama's team the "1st Production Department Team"? They just finished FFXIII-2, so it would make sense if they're the ones working on it now.
EDIT: After doing some research, it seems the "1st Production Department" simply refers to the teams who make the Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts games, as the OP states. So basically it means that Kitase and Nomura are involved, and probably Toriyama as well. So yeah, basically the FFXIII-2 team.

Versus doesn't sound like a game which is coming this year to me. I'm beginning to think it's one giant troll :P
In fact, I'm going out on a limb and saying that FF XIII-3 will be out first.
It's crazy to think we first saw Versus 6 years ago. 6 YEARS AGO! And we've yet to see a live demo.Last edited by dc89; 01-18-2012 at 07:19.

I hope Versus is a much deeper combat system. I wasnt too much of a fan of Kingdom Hearts. I bought it solely bcuz I heard the gameplay was good, but I don't see how really. Kingdom Hearts was a simple action game with RPG elements. I hope Versus is a deeper game in both the action aspect and the RPG aspect. That's my wish list for Versus.

Even I'm losing faith in this game nowadays. Damn SE and Nomura, you guys really want to create the best RPG ever, the RPG of RPGs.

There's a bit more Versus info on Andriasang:
•Nomura recently did the latest check of the game. The visual expression capability has improved from the trailer that was released last year.
•The game has a mix of real time and Visual Works pre-rendered CG. The ratio is 7 real time to 3 pre rendered.
•The scene where Noctus and Stella meet for the first time has been made into a pre-rendered scene. This is because it's an example of an area where adding player control would not have a big effect.
•Square Enix won't be holding an event ala last year's January press conference this year. However, Nomura said that he'd like to make some sort Versus related announcement/showing this year, although he can't say when or where.
•The next time we see Versus XIII, we will get a look at it being controlled on actual hardware.
I'm getting the impression Versus is another year off. Oh well...

It's bloody insane that we've yet to see a real-time demo and yet FF Versus XIII was originally announced in 2006. Square never should have revealed the game so soon, and instead should have focused on FFXIII for the first couple of years.
Anyway, this is solid news, i'm looking forward to seeing how it's shaping up. Pity we won't be getting anything this month with Square not hosting any special January event, but perhaps E3? If not, then TGS for sure.

If Wada stopped pulling Noruma off the project to help out with the FFXIII trilogoy, then the game may have to chance to release, lol.

Playable Demo Of Final Fantasy Versus XIII In The Works
Square Enix is planning a playable demo for its highly anticipated action rpg. This is according to a recent statement made by the game’s director, Tetsuya Nomura, during an interview with the Japanese publication Famitsu.
Nomura stated that a playable demo is needed so that people will have faith in the project. While no further details about the demo were shared Nomura did mention that the day before the interview he checked on some press materials for Versus.
This could indicate that we can expect to see somthing Versus related in the not too distant future as one of the producers of the project mention a short while ago

Well, it makes sense that we would see improved graphics. The gameplay footage from early last year looks a bit dated. Especially when you take into account that the game's lighting has been overhauled with some help from the Luminous engine a couple months ago. So this game is going to look fantastic.

By the time this thing comes out, assuming it ever does, there's no way it'll live up to the hype. Several years of waiting, coupled with controversial titles in between (XIII, XIII-2) - all adds up to a lot of pressure on this game to be the masterpiece that puts SE back in everyone's good graces. Chances are it's going to disappoint some part of the fanbase in some way, whether it's the battle system (already heard some concerns about that), the story, linear/non-linear, difficulty, etc.
It's a beautiful looking game, but we've seen very little of what's inside, and I have no reason to doubt that when/if it comes out, we'll all be right back here debating what we love/hate about it, why SE fucked it up, why they didn't, just like we did with XIII and will with XIII-2.
What's strangest to me is that a lot of the people who are most vocal about wanting SE to drop everything and get Versus out....are the same people who have bashed SE and the last few games they've made. The people most anxious for Versus are the same people who think XIII was crap, think XIII-2 will be crap, hated XII, thought X was mediocre, and basically don't think Square has made a good FF since the late 90s. I don't get it - if you think the studio has botched up every title in the series for the last decade or more, why would you think this one's going to be different?
I'll just be glad when it's done and released, so they can start working on KH3 (already stated that there's no resources to go into KH3 until Versus is done)....so I'm as anxious as the next guy for this game to come out, but for a totally different reason.
