That's kinda the point isn't it? To evoke emotion.

Yea... little disappointed to see Extremely Loud get nominated over various films.

And Fassbender got snubbed on Shame.

The Artist took the Best Pic for the Producer's Guild not to mention the other awards its been racking up. Long story short it's basically got a 70-80%-ish chance at winning.

I haven't seen 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy' yet, but based on Gary Oldman's performances in other films I am quite shocked that he's never even been nominated for an Oscar in the past! Therefore, I'll admit I'm going to be quite biased and be rooting for him, and because I haven't seen any of the other films that the other Best Actor nominees are in.

Speaking of which... TRF you need to edit the list. The Descendants is nominated for best picture, he's missing that one. Also, for best director Alexander Payne directed The Descendants, not Melancholia.

I don't think it'll matter that much, I doubt Hugo will hit that many awards.

I thought Drive would have gotten more attention, but hopefully it will win Best Sound Editing. That was definitely something it did very well.

Yeah, I posted this list on another forum and messed up and pasted it to other sites. I'm making my editing rounds. Sorry bro.

I don't expect people to see them all (or even most of them) ...that's something my colleague/friend and I do, but calling them crap is whole other point.

Drive was very good but it's hard cause only one movie can win and multiple movies did well per category. Seeing as that's the only one you've seen though, I quite understand your position.

Oh, no worries. We're on a game forum, it's really no biggie... in the event you hadn't seen the mistake is all.

Yeah, I can't really criticize any of these choices, since I haven't seen most of these movies. I didn't go to the movies as much this year, except during the summer.

It's quite cruel. He's not going to win. After all these years of being snubbed, they're going to pretend to give it to him and then raise it up just above his reach. I will say, however, that besides Jean Dujardin and George Clooney, he has the best chance of winning. Doesn't mean it'll happen, but it does mean that on the VERY VERY VERY VERY small chance that Dujardin or Clooney don't win, Oldman will.

If the Academy wanted Scorsese to win, they would've given him the Oscars in 1977, 1981, 1991, and 2005.

    At least Oldman was nominated.

Noo.... the Oscars don't work that way. There's lots of directors and actors who do great work and don't get the award to well past that point where its like "Here... we didn't give it to you back when you did your best. So... umm... just take this win now and we'll call it even."

For example, Tarantino whose gotten various nominations for his works hasn't actually won yet. Not that his movies will get the awards, but he hasn't won best director yet.

Right, because Eddie Murphy has such high standards nowadays, amirite?

Have you even seen most of the list?
Actually that's not helping your case when you think about it. Ricky made it into a joke at the Globes: "...when a man says yes to Norbit, says no to you... you know your in trouble."

But seriously, Murphy has dropped so far from his glory days.

Also, a fun insight into the Oscar nominations. A site went and made some clever posters for the movies
    http://www.theshiznit.co.uk/feature/...-the-truth.php

On the flip side a more serious article on the omission and snubs of the Academy's decisions... some of you might just agree with this:
    http://www.comingsoon.net/news/weeke...s.php?id=86289

When it comes to War Horse i personally enjoyed it. It won't win anyway but I think it's worth the praise it got.

"Technically superb, proudly sentimental, and unabashedly old-fashioned, War Horse is an emotional drama that tugs the heartstrings with Spielberg's customary flair."

I haven't seen it yet, but from the way it looked Warrior is similar to The Fighter. It's good for the actor performances but it's not really a Best Pic movie.

For Best Pic it's definitely going to be between three films:

    The Artist
    The Descendants
    Hugo

The Artist going back to an old era and bringing it to a modern one.
The Descendants which is all about dialogue and relationships.
Hugo addressing the roots of film (and I do mean the origin and start of film).

If it wasn't for The Artist, its subject matter and award racking, I think Hugo would win.
