OSAKA, Japan | Thu Jan 26, 2012 2:36am EST
(Reuters) - Nintendo will launch a successor to its Wii game console in the U.S. and other key markets in time for the crucial year-end shopping season later this year, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata told reporters on Thursday.
He said the WiiU would be launched in the United States, Europe, Australia and Japan for the year-end season.

Some expected this, others didn't. Well it's confirmed now, unless of course they delay it for some odd reason.

The latest rumor is that Wii U is ~5 times as powerful as current consoles, while Xbox 720/Loop/whatever is 6x. Interesting to see if the difference is really that small.

if its that small then you are stuck between a rock and a hard place... I mean a 5 time powerful then current console's and the 720/loop is only 6 time powerful than the Wii U
then i feel their is no point getting either, if the specs turn out to be true
why bother with either one
Shitbox is obviously a fanboy terminology. Do not use this kind of language.

You misunderstood me. Wii U is 5x current consoles, Xbox 720/Loop is 6x current consoles, not six times more powerful than Wii U. And what do you mean why bother with either one, especially if Xbox 720 WAS 6x more powerful than Wii U (that'd make it a beast of a hardware).
But yeah, 5-6x current consoles is kind of a big jump.

Wow, if it turns out the difference between the Wii U and Nextbox is that small then Nintendo will have a huge advantage launching as early as this year. That's assuming 3rd parties will continue to heavily support the Wii U as they would the nextbox/ps4 - if the difference is that small, there is no reason why they won't. Also assuming Nintendo are able to craft a comparable online service to PSN/Live
Exciting times ahead. I personally believe the difference will be greater, however.

well i am blind in believing that it is not worth either one
But i see your point in it being a beast of a console the 720 and the Wii U being a big jump for Nintendo... But i have to see the games in action to figure out which one to get

sony like the move, made it first, remote play allows you to play psn titles and psone titles without using the main screen, this is just an evolved form of that, though the vita can already be used with the ps3 as a controller with UMVC3 the touch screen works for special moves.
I say sony should cockblock the wiiu by releasing the remote play patch for Vita a month before the wii u launchs with the exact same features as the Wii U only better.

well either way, a stronge showing a E3 will hopfully make the Wii U stand out from the rest. But i believe it will be the same old zelda and mario making a demo appearnce and nothing fresh to wet my hands for
