I'm curious as to how well Kinect fared during the holidays. Could MSes approach of targeting the casual gamer be working for them? It would be interesting information to have, at least.

After all, the machine is hyped as "The next water cooler" and the fans of this water cooler just love to talk about bottom lines, publishers profit margins and stock prices. The world has become one giant office and I must be the guy they're all saying needs to grow up because I still like having fun.

You have excellent points but then you must also mention that a good portion of the US sales of the 360 are due to the recent rise of Kinect.
The gap is still there but is the demand as strong as it is for the PS3 here? Is the trend still towards 360 if you take out the (Kinect) non-gamers? Games would still likely sell more on the 360 in US due to having such a large gap however that's also due to the fact that it receives less games to choose from.
It seems to me that if you want to try something new, PS3 seems to have the user base that tries everything. These things are also important and people generally don't pay attention to it and look at numbers only.
