    PSU's game review rating system

I've been chatting with the writers and editors at PSU about our scoring system for game reviews. We've always left the numerical score open for interpretation. That is, until now! You may start seeing lower scores for games based on this system. We've largely loosened our scores so that a 7.5 is average. The scoring system isn't like grades you got in school, it's based out of 10, and therefore 5 is middle road. Anyway, take a look at this strictly anecdotal scoring explanation. I'm pretty sure we've given two perfect 10s in our history (maybe 3) and I think that's pretty fair. We haven't, however, given a lot of games 5 or less, and that's not just because we only review the best games each year. Feedback on this is always welcomed.

    Scoring rubric:
10 - "Take all my money, even my savings, this game is crack for gamers"
9-9.5 - The best quality and needs a purchase
8-8.5 - Outstanding, and fans of the genre are going to love it
7-7.5 - Good, but with enough flaws to warrant mild caution
6-6.5 - Above average, worth renting, but lacking that spunk
5-5.5 - Middle of the road. You can take this or leave it, flawed, but not awful
4-4.5 - Below average, hard to recommend
3-3.5 - Bad. Playable, but bad
2-2.5 - Horrible. Why did they make this game?
1-1.5 - Completely unplayable. "This game makes me want to murder"
    0-.5 - Does not compute

I completely agree. So many websites make out 7 to be the 'average' score, and that means that most games are scored pretty highly.

5 should be the average because its the middle

yep, I'm digging this. This should be basically posted on each review so new comers don't get confused on the scoring system.

We'll put a link to this thread at the bottom of each review... and if we get angry comments we'll direct them here, as well.
