Are they?
Scenario 1:
Your child is sent home from school because he or she keeps spitting in people's faces. You tell your child to stop spitting on people, and a few seconds later, your child spits in your spouse's or husband or wife's face. Do you think it would be best if you physically punished your child or took your child to the higher ups which may say your child has behavioral problems or worse, has mental problems?
Do you think it is beneficial to take your belt off and beat the crap out of your child's bottom? Or are other punishments more effective?

Are children better off without physical punishments?

Physical punishment is the only kind of punishment I endured as a child, and it always worked on me.
But it depends on the child, some become even more enraged when they are punished physically, others learn to avoid it by doing as they are told./UPSET THE ESTABLISHED ORDER AND EVERYTHING BECOMES CHAOS\

I don't like the fact that people have gotten soft on punishment. Some kids do have mental problems but most need a swift kick in the butt. No where near every child who acts up has any kind of mental problem. They're being a little brat. It's all about how the kid is raised. If I had ever pulled crap like that I'd get a very sore tush.
Parents are there to be your parents and set you straight not to be your friend and reason with you. So for me the kid gets a sore butt. Of course nowadays you have to be careful or else child protective services will get a call for normal parenting.

Such a backwards concept, glad my parents weren't barbaric enough to beat me as a kid. I still turned out fine without it. Raising your hand to a child means you have lost control IMO.

I think only if there is no other good way to punish then let the belting begin. When it comes to a mentally problematic kids then of course not. When it comes to ADHD i think the doctors have gone nuts. There is such thing as a kid full of energy and hopped up on sugar

beat when they need it. not a close handed kind of beat but if you need to get a belt then by all means. the US has gone really soft on this beating thing. think of it this way, when kids got beat we weren't seen as the fat country. not many kids that get beat end up fat. kinda goes likethis
without beating:
"dad:son eat your broccoli.
son:F u dad!
dad: my kid is out of control and has a mental problem
kid avoids eating healthy"
with beating:
dad: son eat your vegetables
son: F you dad
dad: WHAT?!?!?! i'm getting the belt
son: NOOOO!!! i'm eating them i'll eat them
kid eats healthy
parents beat your kids, it's for their healthsteam id: ravioli704

Spanking your child is not a bad thing. Simply telling your kid to go to his room doesn't ever work half as often as you'd like it to. Another thing I have learned is that raising your voice is another great way to get your child's attention. I do the same with my animals (to a lesser extent) and it works great. My animals no what to do and what not to do. I don't have to worry about my food being stolen if I abandon it although they stil beg, lol.

I have babysitted a lot of children. It's more than what most can say.
And like Funeralfog, I was physically disciplined growing and it works. Although our father had more than just spankings for us at times. One time I made a BIG fuck-up, and my father took me to his work and had me lay in front-lay-and-rest for a few hours. XDLast edited by Inzane2050; 02-14-2012 at 04:39.

I'm fine with physical punishment but not beating a kid. It's fine for a parent to whip a disrespectful kid's ass or slap them in the mouth if they misbehave badly.

this is more what i meant with my post before. against drawing blood or bruising or trying to cause extreme physical harm, but a smack upside the head always works, smack across the backside with a belt (yes a belt, it's not as bad as it sounds trust me, i've experienced the sting first hand)

I'm all for it. As long as it doesn't get excessive and become abuse. Nothing wrong with a belt to their ass when they don't want to listen, or a slap to the mouth when they cuss. I was disciplined as such as a kid and although I don't have kids yet myself, I do have 9 nephews and nieces.
