http://www.facebook.com/masseffectWe've got news for PS3 fans as well: Mass Effect 3 will be available as a digital download on PSN from day one! And, if you preorder the game via the PlayStation Store, you'll receive an exclusive PS3 theme.
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/...usive-bonuses/
It’s been one week since our Mass Effect 3 demo became available and everyone at BioWare is incredibly pleased with the response. If you haven’t already checked out our single-player and multiplayer demos (the latter is completely spoiler free and a bit addicting!), I suggest you try them to see what all the fuss is about. Our development team worked hard to ensure that Mass Effect 3 is available at the same time for PS3 as it is for other platforms, a development milestone we’re happy to celebrate with the PlayStation community!
Today, I want to let you know about an exclusive offer for anyone who pre-orders Mass Effect 3 via the PlayStation Network. When the PlayStation Store updates later this afternoon, you’ll be able to pre-order to download a digital copy of the game (available 3/6 in the US) and receive the M55 Argus rifle to complement your in-game experience.
The Argus is a high-powered rifle and an excellent close-range weapon. Its bursts of fire ensure ammunition conservation during lengthy conflicts. Law-enforcement agencies across the Mass Effect galaxy are adopting the Argus as their standard rifle, as much for its intimidation factor as its suppression power.
Along with that in-game bonus weapon, Sony Computer Entertainment America and BioWare would like to offer you a special Mass Effect 3 PS3 theme—onlyavailable for digital pre-orders. Once the game has launched, these offers will no longer be available, so if you haven’t done so already, secure your copy of Mass Effect 3 later today when the PlayStation Store updates and prepare for the Reaper invasion!
I believe there are a few people here that want this stuff more often.... personally I'm stuck in the past and hate not having the physical media... but of course it's good to have the choice.
Is this the first console game to be available from day one as a download??

Well I only own digital versions of Mass Effect, 1 & 2 on PC and 2 on PS3, it'd be a shame to ruin my digital only Mass Effect library now wouldn't it.
Just hope they announce this on the EU Store later on this or next week.

Because my son has his own PS3, I find myself buying games digitally now so we can both play the game. Works for multiplayer games too. No need to purchase the game twice.

So any estimates on how big it will be? My guess is around 8-9GB
Almost everyone will say: buy console that has games that you want, and those who say otherwise are ignorant.

Probably overpriced like all the retail PSN games.

Sony needs to improve their content delivery system as it is downloading a file that is largr than 2GB takes ages to extract and install imagine how long mass effect 3 would take. Also the game is say 15GB but you need double the space to extract and install it at least 30GB so 20GB and 40GB PS3 probably cannot download it withotu an upgrade in drive.
Rarely are downloadable games cheaper than the retail versions, Steam has been doing it since 2003 and it still has same rpice download games bu its not the delivery system fault its the publishers that set the prices.Last edited by keefy; 02-22-2012 at 05:22.

The good: The game will be on the PS Store from Day 1 to buy (wish all games were like that)
The bad: It will not be reasonably priced...
Bring on PlayStation 2013!

2 disks
From Bioware:
Agreed, that has me very happy as well. I hope next gen offers them all same day.The game will make players re-insert disc 1 as they make their way towards the end levels. BioWare producer Jessie Houston explained to IGN just what happens.
"Players will start with Disc 1 for the introduction and early level choices, then go through a funnel level of sorts, where they will need to switch to Disc 2," Houston said. "From there they will play the middle portion of the game, which is mostly on Disc 2. Then after another funnel point in the story they'll go back to Disc 1."
Houston noted this decision had nothing to do with combating potential piracy, and was done to help alleviate breaking up the gameplay during the middle portions of Mass Effect 2.
"The decision was made due to the nature of having to go to two discs for what is a non-linear game and fitting the right amount of content onto each of the discs," he added. "This way players won't have to swap their discs multiple times during the middle of the game."

I'm assuming its the same as last time.
There are set peices you really dont get to contorl (opening sequences and the final end game peices).
But the bits where you get to choose what you do, they really have to be on the one disc.
Basically last time, you played most of the game on disc 2 untill you finally decided to jump to Omega and fight the oversized Terminator (sorry but I cant think of it in any other way).
