From a technical stand point alone, the 3DS gets completely decimated by the Vita. Sure, there can be some decent or even good looking games on the Wii- but how do they compare to Killzone? Gears? Battlefield? No, of course not.
Hence the 3DS is not (nor ever was) a real heavy weight contender for the portable graphics crown.
That's more or less the kind of hardware disparity we're seeing between the two portables give or take. Although I'm fairly sure the 3DS has a better GPU than the Wii lmfao.

I understand what you're saying, and while it's true, that means nothing about the Vita's success. Also, I think he just meant that you can't just discount the 3DS's graphics just because it's inferior to the Vita. Using the Wii analogy that you used, some of the a wii's best games, such as Super Mario Galaxy, look just as good, if not better, than some of the PS3/360 games.
That's what they said about the PSP and DS. It's possible, but I don't know. Like I said in an earlier post, Nintendo has Mario. They just have to release a game with him (in the 3DS' case, it was 2: Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart) and that will sell the system, but I don't know if Sony has that character/IP. Call of Duty might do it, but I don't know. Again, I'll put the disclaimer that I may be full of crap since I haven't really followed Sony this gen since I've only had a PS3 for a month.

I don't see whats wrong with the launch price. 250 and 300 is good IMO. Obviously lower prices will be better but considering the specs of the Vita and the fact that it JUST launched, these are excellent prices.

You consider it good, I don't.
IMO it is a shade too high to be a month to month high volume seller.
I think the prices will make a large # of people pause before buying.
I have never said the tech isn't cool, and hell if I had the money I would buy one now, but for me a price drop is the only way I will even try to make that happen.

02-23-2012 #36I never said this, nor did I imply it. This sounds like an attempt to discredit superior hardware and justify the purchase of a 3DS. "Well, the graphics don't really matter since they don't determine the success of a machine"..

Again, I invite you to compare Metroid Prime 3 or The Conduit(2) to Killzone 3 or Halo:Reach.
Or Mario Galaxies to God of War 3.
But one cannot do this and come away with anything but utter defeat for the Wii. So you just move the goal posts.... And contrast its flagship titles to crappy PS3/360 ones. Comparing the absolute best of the Wii to the most mediocre or subpar of the other systems only reaffirms the point I'm making: The hardware sucks.
It was intentionally designed to suck, to keep the price down.
So anyways, there is no competition from a 'power' perspective between the 3DS and the Vita. None.
And honestly, when you take away the 3DS's "3D" there's nothing left to even call innovative or impressive from a hardware point of view when compared to the Vita... Or other mobile handhelds.
Having said that, Nintendo products will always have a place with the casuals and rightly so. I'm not questioning their prolific success in that regard, my entire discussion here was concerning merely the hardware.
I will say this, though, the more powerful the machine (and with more features) the more developers can do with it to create interesting and unique titles.Last edited by Vulgotha; 02-23-2012 at 16:54.

Ok. That's on me then. Looking back on your original post, I don't know where the hell that remark came from, so I respectfully withdraw it. And I'm not trying to discredit anything. I'm no fanboy of any system. I admit, I prefer Nintendo products, partly because that's what I grew up with. But I'm not going to blindly defend them, while putting down another product.
I agree completely. Sony's systems are completely better than Nintendo's from a specs perspective. And I'm not going to argue that Nintendo's best are going to look better than Sony's best. My argument was simply that as inferior of hardware that Nintendo has, it can still produce some amazing looking gamesBut then in the same breath you go on to state that one should not discount the 3DS's graphics:

I want a price cut
With the 3DS price, they have to in the near future. $130 is my sweetspot for a handheld

I'm not sure, but with the 3DS price, they have to act; and that leaves me eager. That and I'm kind of turned off by the idea playing my console games on a handheld that can't fit in my pocket. So I definitely will hold off until the price is to my suiting.

I strongly suspect there won't be a price cut until after Call of Duty:Vita is released; if ever there was a system seller game, that is it.
Maybe in the run up to Xmas there will be a price cut, but I can't see Sony doing it before then as they are rumoured to be losing money on Vita hardware sales as it is.
