[Analyst] PS Vita to sell 12.4 million in 2012 (The Guardian)

US market intelligence firm Strategy Analytics has predicted that Sony will sell 12.4 million Vitas this year – as long as the price is dropped at some point.
The handheld console, launched yesterday in Europe, currently costs $249 (or £229 in the UK) for the basic unit without 3G. Strategy Analytics reckons Vita's hardware sales could reach $2.2 billion this year, assuming a $180 average retail price.

Interesting. Pretty optimistic of them (the analysts) to say that. It definitely seems like the most popular launch of a gaming console since Wii/360/PS3 came out.

180? I don't see that big of a price drop unless sony includes two or three full priced games. I bought the 3g version for less than the vita, but at 180? No way, I would be pretty mad and so would alot of first adopters. However, if 3g version was 220. I wouldn't be upset.

I'd go along with that. I think it's crucial for them to officially drop it to 199 for the holidays.

I can see them dropping the price of both the PS3 and PSV this E3 and start selling them together as a bundle too

To be honest. The 3G is the better value option here in the UK, especially if you are buying Wipeout. Wifi is around £210 at the moment and you can pick up the 3G for £250 from some reputable re-sellers on Amazon.

Vodafone (UK 3G Partner) are doing a promotion where you top up your mobile data allowance by £5 and you get FREE Wipeout. It's a no brainer.

The game at the moment is £30 and if you have a smartphone with a 3G connection you can tether your Vita to that, and download more than 20MB data and even play online, even though it'll probably lag like shit. Plus when 4G hits the UK next year I think, you could tether to that and play online no problem (if you have a 4G phone in the US then the 3G Vita is pointless), without forking out for another Vita.

Amazon are selling them for 197 pounds, which I think is amazing....thou I do think Sony should pack a 4GB with them

The 3g vita also has the GPS so for me its not pointless to buy it for future use.

AFter more user reviews and comments, the Vita is looking good.

But it would need a fairly decent price drop for me to pick it up.

Depends on CoD, its unpredictable what that will do though I doubt it'll do that much depends how far away its release is from the PS360 game.

Agreed. They just need a new interface that is more visually exciting (and of course user-friendly.) Not that the current UI is the ugliest thing I've ever seen.

I liked the XMB better although it's a bit dated now -- I wouldn't have wanted the XMB as it is....just an improved version of that would have done.

They should have expanded upon that instead of going the iOS route with circle icons and their own take on how the apps open/close. I like the iOS so they should have taken more from it.

Just my opinion though.
