    Rumour: Dead Space 3 Powered By Frostbite 2.0

    Battlefield 3 technology set to power EA Visceral's next sci-fi chiller?
    The next Dead Space outing could be developed using DICE's stunning Battlefield 3 engine, Frostbite 2.0, according to a recent evidence from inside EA.

    EA Montreal was recently renamed to Visceral Games Montreal as the Dead Space studio expnaded beyond its base at EA's Redwood Shores HQ.

    "Dead Space Franchise is currently seeking a Senior Environment Artist opportunity in our Montreal studio," reads a recent job listing, just the latest hint that EA is developing a sequel to 2011's Dead Space 2.

    Meanwhile, DICE rendering architect Johan Andersson tweeted earlier today: "Flying off to Canada & the US to visit a whole bunch of Frostbite-powered EA studios before GDC. First stop: Montreal."

    Is former Army of Two studio Visceral Montreal working on a new Dead Space game? With the Frostbite engine? It certainly sounds as if it could be, and the engine's lighting, and graphical power would certainly suit an atmospheric third-person horror/shooter.

    The first Dead Space 3 rumours hit last year, suggesting the game will take place on an ice planet.

    As well as Battlefield 3, Frostbite 2.0 has also powered last year's poorly-received Need For Speed: The Run.

    Funny that people still hate on the Unreal engine when games like Batman: Arkham City and Gears of War 3 receive a lot of praise for their visuals. I wouldn't be surprised if people do the same thing with Frostbite 2.0 in the future.

    Call it hate, irdgaf. Better engines are out and I prefer those. Low budget titles coming from devs that don't have the time to tweak the engine to hell and back always seem to suffer from that horrible bloom effect.

    Yeah, their bloom was terribly wonky for the longest time. It is what turned me off from buying Gears and Unreal Tournament as it really just ruined the graphics even back when these games were state-of-the-art.

    Frostbite2 has quite incredible dynamic light system, so this sounds like a good plan.

    It hink Frostbite 2 runs better and handles things alot better than Frost Bite 1.5 I was really surprised how well my average computer runs BF3.

    If BF3 is anything to go by on console for Frostbite 2.0, color me unimpressed. Maybe it will be 2.x when it is released, because it looks like ass IMO right now. Physics aspect is nice though.

    Massive fan of Dead Space here, going through the second game at the moment actually.

    Needless to say i'm looking forward to Dead Space 3, and if it's powered by Frostbite 2.0, then we're surely in for a treat. Hopefully we'll get an announcement at E3, since it's still technically a rumor right now (even though we all know it's coming).

    Well so far the lighting has been atrocious in the Frostbite games to date. Whether that is an inherent problem with the engine or just rubbish developers making shit art direction decisions is up for debate.

    The bloom in UE might be weird but at least it's not dialled up to 100 when 3 or 4 would have sufficed, like in BF3

    It has horrid textures and jaggies too (on console that is).

    Well, supposedly the console versions are running on the lowest settings. But there's not much of a difference when you max out the game anyway. I've seen multiple videos and screenshots and think Crysis 2 looks better.

    Unreal Engine has terrible bloom. Frostbite looks amazing, imo. But UE3's bloom isn't even real bloom; it's just a cheap parlor trick.

    Seems a bit off but... alright. I have no qualmswith the engine they used in Dead Space 1 or 2, but as long as it doesn't appear too different I won't care.
