News: BaldursGate.com has suddenly become very active, displaying a teaser image, some cryptic text and some hidden clues in quick succession. Many are speculating a new addition to the classic roleplaying franchise – and an ex-BioWare designer seems to be behind it…
SourceThere’s something happening at baldursgate.com. First registered in October 2011, then updated with a cryptic source code message last month, tonight the website appears very active indeed – so much so, in fact, that it’s been updated twice.
A big picture of a skull is the main attraction. Just now a block of text has been added beneath it:
The page’s source code also has something to say:“The Lord of Murder shall perish, but in his doom he shall spawn a score of mortal progeny, chaos will be sown by their passage.”

Shadowy Figure- Raise Dead : Infinity Engine
For years, I clung to the memory of it. Then the memory of the memory.
And then… it returned. Better than it was before
It’s a quote related to the return of Bhaal, spots BeefJack’s Jamie Donnelly. Do signs point to a new game in the acclaimed classic RPG series?
Earlier this evening the source code said: “You haven’t guessed it yet.”
Guessed what? Recently there were rumours that the Baldur’s Gate games would be coming to Steam, but it seems the new stuff is unrelated.
So, what is it? A new Baldur’s Gate game built in the Dragon Age engine was the first rumour to do the Twitter rounds, although mentions of the Infinity Engine in the page’s source code went some way to discounting that suggestion. Baldur’s Gate multiformat remakes have also been speculated about, but the veracity of said rumours appears limited.
Yet more theorists have taken to Twitter deciding that this will be a free-to-play or Facebook game. Or perhaps both. It’s funny how rumour spreads.
Further complicating matters is the fact that the Baldur’s Gate IP is still held by Atari, who aren’t linked with the EA-owned BioWare, creators of the original games.
Some had speculated that this isn’t a BioWare- or Atari-related venture at all. The website’s domain name was registered with GoDaddy – a major domain name provider, certainly, but not necessarily one you’d associate with a super-mega-business.
“I remember seeing that someone has rebuilt Infinity as a fan project,” tweeted journalist Richard Cobbett, “supposedly with the scope for new games.”
But quite excitingly, it seems we’re not dealing with a fan project at all, as it turns out a former BioWare designer is linked with the project. Initial whois searches yielded little, but further digging shows the domain was registered by one Mr. Trent Oster, who worked on the original Baldur’s Gate.
We approached Oster for a comment, but he politely declined at this stage.
Someone on the BioWare Social Network also managed to garner a response from the ex-BioWare man, now with Beamdog. “Hopefully all will be made clear shortly,” he said.
One of the game that will be announced next month? time will tell![]()

i REALLY want another Baldur's Gate

Let's be honest: You sleep with anything that walks on two legs. Sometimes, you're not even that discriminating

Diablo III will come for PS3 so that didn't bring me back to the PC.
Jagged Alliance Back in Action is sadly not as good as the original.
But if there's really a new BG on the horizon i'll but aside 1000bucks for a new notebook.
I've lost count of how many times i've finished BG2 and Throne of Baal.
I even killed Demogorgon and kept my whole party alive.......... consider me hyped.

I've beaten the first one, and have been working my way through the 2nd one for about a year now. Great games. If there's a new Baldur's Gate coming out, it will be one of the first day one purchases I've made in a long time.

Great news indeed. A new Baldur's Gate is much welcomed! I loved all the isometric games of that era... BG, Icewind Dale, Diablo, etc.

My favorite franchise ever, so I'm definitely curious.

Okay, I'm definitely going to have to re-install the games and play through them again!

New Baldur’s Gate Game In Development, Teaser Site Live
------EDIT------Yesterday a teaser site went live with the trademark grimacing skull, some music, and background art from the classic series. Eurogamer found some additional clues in the source code.
•Shadowy Figure- Raise Dead : Infinity Engine.
•For years, I clung to the memory of it. Then the memory of the memory.
•And then... it returned. Better than it was before.
•Pore over the tapestries and works of art hanging from our walls if you wish, Child of Bhaal... perhaps you will find a clue. But patience,
ah... patience would reveal it all.
•As the silver moon waxes and wanes, so too does life.
The studio behind the site has been confirmed to be Beamdog a company co-founded by an ex BioWare employee, Trent Oster. Beamdog has confirmed an official announcement is forthcoming, and that this teaser page doesn't have anything to do with the rumored Steam re-release of the original games. Adding to the credibility that it will be a brand new Baldur’s Gate game, Atari said in 2008 that they planned to revisit Baldur’s Gate, D&D, Neverwinter Nights, and Test Drive Unlimited. Stay tuned for further updates!
