I really like the style of that cover. That's really cool!

03-01-2012 #28For years now we've enjoyed the adventures of Ezio Auditore as he makes his way through the Italian Renaissance and Ottoman-controlled Constantinople. That story is over. Ever since the conclusion of Assassin's Creed II, a senior team of Ubisoft developers has been secretly toiling away on what comes next. That team aimed high, with plans to examine and rethink every element of the franchise from the ground up, build something new, and take a full three year development cycle to do it.
The game that emerged is Assassin's Creed III. Set in the latter half of the 18th century, we'll see the war between the Templars and the Assassins escalate as it crosses over to the New World of America, and witness firsthand the events of the American Revolution. Caught in the conflict is a daring new hero in the Assassin's Creed franchise. We have the full story of this new hero and the striking game in which he stars, along with exclusive screens and art from the project, all packed into a massive 13-page cover story.

Looks great, although I won't lie; I was hoping for something like ancient China or Victorian England. I think politically in terms of the narrative there will be some great stuff going on here, but what about the building scaling? I don't know much about U.S. history so please forgive my ignorance, but I can't really think of any awe-inspiring structures ala ACII, Brotherhood etc (given the time period it is set in).
I would imagine the open-world aspect will be expanded. I can easily see the protagonist scouting across fields and through forests for miles and miles. That would be sweet.
Still only feels like yesterday Revelations was announced though!

You have mass revolution, political strive for power, and underground organizations running the show. As I said before, the American Revolution is one of the best ways to take the story, and the people comparing it to RDR should probably go back to both history and geography class. I have faith that the development team can pull this off.

I actually like going the American revolution route. Something different and would have an interesting story to it. Just stop making so damn fast.

For the record, New York City, Boston and Philadelphia were huge cities during the American Revolution so there is definitely potential for them as well as potential for places like actual battlefronts and little out of the way spots for assassinations. You all are being a bunch of haters. Cry babies.

Great premise choice. How many games have been set during the American Revolution or Civil War? I always wanted more games to use those periods.
I have my copy of AC: Revelations, but I still haven't gotten around to it....

I have never been a fan of Independence War but oh well, I will still preorder this game.
At least they didn't go back in time, to Egypt for example. I would have hated that.Man who chase after bus get exhausted, man who run in front of bus get tired
Man who masturbates in class has firm grip of subject at hand
Woman who sink in man's arms soon have arms in man's sink
