    Next-Gen Console FPS Games Will Have A Bigger Field Of View (Rumor)

    Game companies are trying to expand the Field Of View with Next-Generation Console FPS games. The current FPS games use a field of view of 60 right now. Photos has been released showing how much better the the field of view will be when the game companies expand to a 80-90. The larger field of view will also make 3D run smoother and will help reduce 3D sickness. Here are some comparisons:

    It's all up to the developers. But honestly, PC variants of most any game has already had a large draw distance. But the next generation will be more about continuous detail scaling than just an on-off draw distance mechanism, imo.

    Mostly affects PC games because PC users tend to sit alot closer to the screen than console users.

    I think more than anything, there needs to be better stories and longer single player campaigns worked into the FPS genre. FPS games also need a more cinematic gameplay feel to them. While the field of view is very important, TVs and monitors currently have a limiting effect to this. A better field of view would necessitate TVs and monitors have a more panoramic screen aspect ratio. Instead of the 16x9 aspect ratio, an aspect ratio of 40x8 or even 48x8 would be superior. Couple this with a physical curve designed to more closely match the viewer's natural field of vision and I think we'd have a far more natural and superior gaming experience.
