Bolded part rarely means anything good...Developer From Software has assured fans that there will be a follow up to cult hit Dark Souls.
The 2011 game was itself a spiritual successor - rather than a direct sequel - to the popular Demon's Souls. Both games have gathered a strong following thanks to its notoriously challenging gameplay.
"Of course, it's not over yet," From Software's R&D head Masanori Takeuchi told GameTrailers.
"We've always been enamoured by dark fantasy action RPGs. That's just been our core DNA and I think we'll continue to utilise that."
And the studio's executive producer Eiichi Nakajima adds that the team will be aiming for a much wider audience next time around.
"We've always been about making games for the core gamer, and they weren't necessarily games that did well financially, which is too bad," he said.
"The success of both Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, which have each sold over a million [units] per title worldwide, has made us shift our thinking internally to not just core gamers, but to globalise our products, that they can be successful on a worldwide scale.
"That's now one of the key pillars we consider when we develop games in the future."![]()

Didn't bother with the last game wasn't masochistic enough to finish the first one.
Trophy-licious!

Both are very good games IMO. Sounds like they want to dumb it down a bit however. The game isn't really that hard once you become comfortable with dodging and parrying.

Wow great, in Dark Souls 2 you will have GOD mode on to appeal to the soft cocks who couldn't take the Demon's Souls.

DS will never sell as good as other more "casual" series but i think the fact that they sold over 1million games shows that the market is big enough to fund any series if it is good.
There's no need to make it easier,i think they'll sell less if they do.

Question, ANYONE!!! Why do I think Dark souls sucks sooo bad? I started it yesterday and Got out of prison got dropped off by bird, Made it to the 1st guy who wants to sell you some stuff behind a building, he's sitting down. Thats as far as I got and I swore I'd never put that game back in. I didnt mind the dying, alot. it was sooo boring i thought. I couldnt find out where to go after the guy I ended back up by where you 1st start by graveyard w big skeletons and the Knight inside gave me somthing. mOh I forgot to tell you I killed the 1st knight where your bonfire is. Idk... any suggestions? I LOVE SKYRIM. By FAR my favorite game. Maybe because I BOUGHT IT FOR XBOX. i heard ps3 versions choppy. Thanx!

No do not appeal to wider audience. The fans you have now buy it because of how unique it is to find a game like this now a days. Wider audience usualy mean herp derp difficulty, mindless combat and all that.

great news, make it goddamn exclusive so they don't have to dumb down the difficulty for the children

Let's be honest: You sleep with anything that walks on two legs. Sometimes, you're not even that discriminating

i don't see how exclusiveness will make prevent it from being dumbed down. They already got people hooked with dark souls, even if they release a shitstorm of dificulty, i think the'll still sell well. it could be a going back to the roots moment to really make a hard game, or they could nerf everything for the casuals.

Somebody get me a doctor, I ain't feelin' ill ...But I ain't feelin' this at all...

Dark Souls was easier then Demon's Souls imo.
They won't nerf it, FROM Software knows why their fans love the series so if anything they will advertise it with "harder then any DS before"

1. This is your opinion.
2. This has absolutely NOTHING to do with it being multiplatform.
The developers stated multiple times that they didn't even think about the western market that much and that it was Namco that wanted it to be on both consoles. After all, it's PS3 exclusive in Japan. The Xbox version is simply a port done by Namco to get those extra sales and because Sony was dumb enough to let that franchise go...Last edited by Wrath; 03-15-2012 at 19:23.

I donno man, yea the bosses are easier but the game itself is a lot tougher for me. Especially since I don't care about armor and weapons and in Demon it was handed to me so the game became easy for me...in this game, I have to find armor, for which reason I end up with low defense armor and low damage weapons...making the game pretty tough for me.
I beat Demon Souls within a week, I have played about 40 hours of Dark Souls and I'm barely scratching the surface.

Yeah I wouldn't think going multiplatform would dum down difficulty. "Appeal to wider audience" now that is code for duming down.

Hehe maybe my DkS char was too mighty but i just didn't feel as vulnerable as in DeS.
In DeS i was like "Holyshitballs please don't onehit me Mindflayer!" and in DkS "Attack me all day i'm not even losing stamina!"
Pyromancy was a little bit to strong and the crystal ring shield too - i heard they nerfed it in the patch so maybe it's a bit harder now.
