Never thought something like that could happen lol, jesus....A man who tried illegally downloading a Slash album says he accidentally found it to contain child pornography.
Nigel Robertson from Hull, England, admits he tried to steal the music, but insists the indecent image downloads were an accident.
"When I opened some of them up, I realised they were young girls," he told the Daily Mail. "I immediately called my wife. I was panicking. I asked her what she thought I should do and her response was to call the police.
"I was willing to take it on the chin for downloading the music. I half expected to get arrested for that but felt it was important because someone was obviously uploading this."
Now Robertson has been banned from seeing his own children for up to a year while police examine his hard drive.
"It has been a nightmare," he adds. "I feel like I am guilty until proven innocent. That is not the way I understood the British justice system to work."
Meanwhile, in unconfirmed reports, illegal downloads of music by Slash have since dropped by 2000%. Probably.
Would this incident make you think twice about downloading illegal music, or do you have another opinion on the story?

I can't help but laugh at the fact that he called his wife. He could have simply deleted it, like Dave said, instead of drawing more attention to himself.

I'm guessing he told the police, thinking they would be able to get the person who was doing this, not thinking he'd get fucked over too

this is almost as fantastical an excuse for being in posession of child porn as the one pete townshend cunjoured up when he was nabbed, the one where he said he only joined all those paedophile websites because he was writing a book about kiddy fiddlers.
can't believe anyone would be that dumb as to own up to it if they did honestly download it by mistake while downloading some other illegal material. I know I wouldn't.
this bit makes me laugh the most
that to me translates as:I immediately called my wife. I was panicking. I asked her what she thought I should do and her response was to call the police.
it takes a seriously dumb bastard to download child porn, it takes an even dumber bastard to try to think up some far fetched whacky excuse, instead of doing the commonsensical by just deleting them.shit, what the fuck do I do if my wife walks in on me while I'm in posession of this child porn?? wait, I have an idea.... wife!!! come in here quick!!! I was downloading some copyrighted material unlawfully when I realised I got some extra things I didn't want. naturally, I was curious as to what they were, and it was only when I'd checked the first 250 images that I realised it was child porn!!! what should I do????Don't waste your words I don't need anything from you.

Lmao. You're probably right. On the face of it he seems to have good intentions but this was just a dumbass move
I wonder why he can't see his kids for a year though. Didn't think it would take that long to scan his harddrive and prove he's not uploading that stuff considering he 'turned himself in' lol

Yeah, I can rename any file I want and change it to any file extension I want...
see below
this
I would have reported it too...
Yeah, I guess if those were your kids someone exploited, you'd want someone to just delete them and move on. Who cares if some sicko is caught or not. smh

Use Eraser for such instances as this to securely delete the files.

Probably. LOL
Pretty messed up though. +1 for deleting and pretending like nothing happened, though I guess I could understand him thinking this could somehow be the right decision.
But the story of that guy that got raided for CP (when someone was using his internet outside his house) would have me tripping. Would be awful to be accused of DLing that and then asked why you didn't report it ... I dunno. Wild.
LOL @ slash

it sounds to me like the sicko was caught, the whole story comes across as a bit too convenient to me. child pornography should be one of the few instances where you should be treated as guilty until proven innocent.
if you know you are innocent, delete the crap straight away, forget about it and assume someone else in a position of authority, whose job it is to search the net for child porn will uncover it. many countries have departments whose sole purpose is to actively search for this sort of content, let them do their job and don't try to be the vigilante.
you are only serving to make yourself a link in the whole paedophile chain, even if so unwittingly.Don't waste your words I don't need anything from you.

He did the right thing and is being punished for it yet people wonder why more n more people choose not to do the right thing....

I don't think it's a poor attitude at all, that's just something we'll have to agree to disagree on.
reporting suspected paedophillia activity is one thing, owning up to having it is something else, even if it came into someones posession by accident. anyone that is found to be in posession of such material SHOULD be investigated, they SHOULD be viewed as being guilty until proven innocent, again, that's something we'll just have to agree to disagree on.
if it was a family member of mine that was victim of child pornography, then sure, I would want the people responsible to be caught (just like I do in this case), but I'd also want ANYONE that was in posession of it to be fully investigated and not be deemed to be above suspicion just because he/she claims to have received it in all innocence.Don't waste your words I don't need anything from you.

That's what this is all about though. He reported it thinking he was doing the right thing
Your explanation is assuming he got caught and then came up with this allibi to defend himself? At least that's how it reads. Why would anyone who willingly has possession of child pornography go to the police to report an incident such as this? Preemptive tactic? I don't believe so
