I'll wait to read other reviews on the title. I don't care for IGN.

Without going into detail, I'd give it a 7.5.

IGN seems to be the "odd man out" lately, giving i am alive 4.5 as well while most other sites gave it a 7-8.

Once more into the fray.

Good to hear Lethal, looking forward to this.

I'm sorry guys but - what the hell? Are we playing the same game?
I hate it so much, it feels like a generic fan-made DLC or something... The atmosphere is completely paper thin, the voice acting is beyond horrendous (the opening dialogues with the first characters where almost like watching a junior school play) and worst of all, the combat. Oh the fucking combat. It's just frustrating and it's almost as if they took the fact that the series didn't have the best combat mechanics and played on it, deliberately making it worse to try and boost 'authenticity'. But in the end it just feels awful.
It kind of reminds me of Deadly Premonition, but the difference between that game and this is that DPhad a good story that you could put aside it's crappyness. I have no connection with the random douche I play as, I dont care about his shit, and most of all I have no motivation to go through the completely linear scripted events. It saddens me that this abomination can be labelled as a Silent Hill game... although actually after playing Homecoming the series was dead for me. It's better than homecoming but that is like saying chlamydia is better than HIV.
I have said all that needs to be said, and thats without even bashing the graphics which for a current gen game are totally shit. The glory days of silent hill 2 feel like they are so far away the developers of this generation will never match it. I really, REALL never thought I would say this but I agree with the 4.5/10 IGN review. In fact I would give it a 3 at best. It's just another churned out, craptastic game with a good franchise badge to make a quick bag of cash.Last edited by shrike; 03-13-2012 at 13:33.

Normally your opinions on spot on and i have no issue getting the games you say are good, but knowing the combat is crap on purpose cause your an "untrained human" makes this a no buy or rent for me. I normally play games for story, but mostly for fun and being frustrated with a main mechanic of a game just doesn't sound worth it to me.
Most gave it in the 70s, but even joystiq gave it a 2.5/5 stars and I agree with there reviews more then not

Regarding I Am Alive, there must be an aspect of the game that made people who played it say 'Oh that's cool!' or some sort of story twist that was uber engaging, because, looking at videos and reading general opinions the game looks fucking tosh. I'm not usually one to judge a book by it's cover, either

You also have to remember that I only put 1hr in to the game. And in that 1hr, I really actually enjoyed the game. It is a very twisted and reminds me of Silent Hill 2. I am not saying to purchase this game. I am saying that it is worth playing.
This game is clearly not perfect as I already stated. But it is still enjoyable.

I guess people WANT it to be good because they are dying to get a new SH?!
...So they're looking for positive reviews.

The game is nowhere near as bad as shrike is describing. The game is enjoyable but it does suffer from poor fighting mechanics. Overall the game is worth a play through.

They're coming back March 20th when the Silent Hill HD collection comes out.

I'm enjoying Downpour though. We're certainly past the glory days with this franchise but that's not going to stop me from loving me some Silent Hill. I really liked Homecoming but i'm the same as just about every SH diehard fan. Silent Hill 2 was the best and the fact that it was so good it really put the franchise on a pedestal that could never be reached.
So for what it's worth i think you just need to enjoy Downpour the best you can. These games are all about story and atmosphere for me. Both are there in Downpour.
