It is not the best of the series at all. However, I am enjoying this game even with the flawed combat system. Not really a purchase game though.

Judging by what people are saying, it looks like a decent rental. I'll probably gamefly it.

Sounds good enough to warrant a purchase in the future IMO, when the price drops. As a horror fan I've been looking forward to this game for too long to not play it.

General consensus seems to be lack of memorable scares, stiff combat, and average graphics. Some like the voice acting, others find it campy. I'm sure any fan of old school survival horror would have fun.

I wouldn't expect much out of the graphics, given the open-world gameplay.

No just the overall fighting combat. I will never understand why these new SH games feel the need to make a melee weapon your number one go to weapon. NONE of the old one ever did that. Melee was the last resort. Pistol was always your main weapon. Your suppose to be an average guy, not some super killer walking around destroying things with a bottle(omg this monsters scares me but I have a bottle so I can take it). The lack of a decent target lock combined with no "quick step back" just makes the combat that much worse.

Other than the combat system it is a good game. Def feels like SH. Shame that one of the major aspects holds the game back. If they had a better combat system it would have gotten higher ratings.

I've played the game for about 2 hours and I think it's awesome. The alternate world looks great and the water aspect is really cool. The combat is kind of clunky, but I don't think its as bad as people are making it out to be. One tip for those with the game... I've talked to a few people and all didn't realize that holding L2 allowed Murphy to get in a fighting stance and strafe around the enemies. Makes blocking and attacking way easier IMO. As for the voice acting, I think Murphy is one of the more likable of the SH characters because of his VO. I'd def recommend checking this game out. Can't say I'll hunt out every trophy in this one, but SH never really seemed like an game for trophies in the first place...

Silent Hill 2 is still unbeaten. And I think, it won't change very soon :/...

Read the review for it on IGN which gave it a 4.5/10 which is sort of absurd. I would give it a 7. I rented it and it actually scares me. It's been a while since a horror game has scared me, but the atmosphere to this game when you are playing at night with the sound up is fucked...I couldn't go further into some places because they were complete darkness and I only had a lighter which lights up more, but you have to switch back to a weapon if you need to fight someone..and hearing footsteps, creaks and moans from things in the background doesn't help.

I was under the impression that the worst score they would give the game was a 6/10. All of the gameplay footage I've seen of the game didn't look that bad. And with the clumsy/stiff controls, it sounds like any other Silent Hill title.

Well at least Silent Hill actually still scares you. Resident Evil lost that touch after number 2.

I've been playing Silent Hill Downpour and i find it really creepy.
    I'm loving it.
Yes it has its problems, but i'm looking past the performance and enjoying the game for what it is.

3D is better than i thought on me Hmz-t1. Had a few hiccups at the start with Background stuck on foreground charactors in one of the cutscenes but that has since gone.
Really, really,.... immersive! and def adds to the gameplay.

I've jumped a couple of times, and shit myself once, lol

I reviewed Silent Hill: Downpour for PSU.com and thought it was a solid, if flawed, experience, with the frame rate and combat in particular letting it down. I've been a fan since the original and would recommend it to long-time SH fans.

Check our our review for the full skinny:
