I've 2 Rigs with SSD in them, One is Crucial c300 64GB pretty good and fast nothing wrong with it so far. The other one is Crucial M4 256GB pretty fast and one of the most reliable SSD on the market.

you can get a 64GB Crucial M4 for around
    £68.93 on Amazon UK

Forget that it seems you've already got your SSD!! mine gets 7.9 on WEI though :P

Why the hell haven't SSHD prices gone down yet? Seriously. I would've thought they would be cheaper to produce cause they have fewer parts in them than regular HDs

They manufacture them in Thailand that's why so the prices shot up along with the HDDs. Prices are estimated to drop to the original prices from before the floods in about 8/9 months time, some say a year.

    Damn, bugger and blast!

I did some basic hard drive benchmarks and fud out this drive is under performing by half at 250MB/sec. I searched and searched and then I read my Motherboard manual which says its only SATA II 3Gbps or around 280MB/sec.
My motherboard is USB 3 not SATA 3.

Still boots up fast and in about 25 seconds (including BIOS post) just doesnt bench well due to being bottle knecked by my board.

My OS drive (Spinpoint F3) is dying, so I think I'll jump on the SSD bandwagon.

I'm trying to decide between the Crucial M4 64GB and OCZ Vertex 3 60GB. Both use synchronous NAND (faster than asynchronous, apparantly), but the Crucial seems to be more reliable whilst the OCZ has better performance. I only have a SATA II motherboard, however. Still, even with SATA II it will still be faster than a HDD.

How is your OCZ holding up so far, keefy?

Comparing performances is really useless when it comes to SSDs. Doesn't matter which one you choose, it will blow your regular hard drive away by sheer speed. But if I had to pick, intel and crucial have the best record on the market in terms of customer support, reliability and price per performance.

It is working really well and everything that is installed on it loads up instantly such as Firefox Nod32 antivirus and anythign else. When using my old spinpoint F1 I had to wait up to 1 minute for Firefox to load up after i clicked the icon and I used to dread reboots and did them as little as possible.

The Agility 3 is a good budget drive at about £1 per GB.

QFT! I have two Crucial C300 128GB SSDs in my machine. They are really fast and in the RAID-0 configuration, that much faster. I don't think I can ever go back to spin drives.

I have an Crucial M4 256GB and it's amazingly fast as i said before, not a single issue so far and the support from Crucial is very good too. I'm planing to get another 256GB for a RAID-0 configuration soon.
Also, they are pretty cheap now days, Way cheaper than when i first bought mine!

I'm on a 320gb hard drive in my laptop. Sometimes, especially after rebooting when programs are not loaded on RAM it takes so long to open even folders. I'll wait a bit to let the prices drop a bit more.

I had heard that SSDs are more prone to failure but yesterday I saw this and was blown away

I know they mean data corruption failure. The bigger the size the greater the chance right?

No, it has to do with the memory controller.

Lol. The kind of failure in the video is almost negligent when it comes to SSD drives. Without moving parts, they are immune to a lot of the physical punishment spin drives would bitch and moan from. The failures inherent in SSD drives deal with the memory controller like what MATRIX 2 was saying.

Reliability was my main concern since it's to be used as the OS drive, so I've ordered the Crucial M4 64GB, £74 delivered from Crucial UK.

    Thanks for the advice.

You won't regret it. M4 are one of the most reliable SSDs on the market.

Don't worry about reliability anymore. It used to be a problem, a very exaggerated one I might add, but things have changed with the newer generations of controllers.

If you don't want to do research and concerned over reliability, then get anything Crucial or Intel. Other manufacturers are fine as well but these two are the industry leaders in terms of reliability.

Just an FYI... there is exactly zero reliability with any hard drives of any kind from any manufacturer. That is the nature of data drives. I don't understand why this hasn't been ingrained into people's heads yet. They go out at random times even if they seemingly work perfectly. You should never rely on any hard drive or solid state drive and live by the phrase, "Any data that's not backed up at least twice is data you don't care about." Have and maintain backups knowing that an HDD or SSD can go out at any moment regardless if it's new or old. You'll save yourself a lot of grief this way.

This is true. I've been through 100+ HDD in the past 16 years, many of them failed for no reason.

ok here are my two sense did you read the part of i am thinking about a 64 gig drive.

Here is why ssd will never catch on.

    1. to expensive

    2. not enough storage for the money i am sorry 500.00 for 64 gig's what a rip off.

    3. yes hard drives fail but ssd's will fail after your read and write to them a number of times all flash memory fails as well.

So think about this 2 tb for 249.00 or a 64 gig ssd for 500.00 i think i would like the 2 Tb instead thank you very much.
