Just an FYI... there is exactly zero reliability with any hard drives of any kind from any manufacturer. That is the nature of data drives. I don't understand why this hasn't been ingrained into people's heads yet. They go out at random times even if they seemingly work perfectly. You should never rely on any hard drive or solid state drive and live by the phrase, "Any data that's not backed up at least twice is data you don't care about." Have and maintain backups knowing that an HDD or SSD can go out at any moment regardless if it's new or old. You'll save yourself a lot of grief this way.

3 is the magic number. you want your data to be stored in 3 different places, and if possibily two completely sepeate locations (so if you have a fire or something you are saved. an external hard drive next to a pc that is lost in a fire, will also be lost in a fire ) for stuff thats really important, I have a copy on my hard drive, a copy on an external form of storage, be it a pen drive or just an external hard drive, and then saved in teh cloud, via dropbox, OR just email it to
myself.

3. yes hard drives fail but ssd's will fail after your read and write to them a number of times all flash memory fails as well.

So think about this 2 tb for 249.00 or a 64 gig ssd for 500.00 i think i would like the 2 Tb instead thank you very much.

technology comes down in price. blu ray movies used to cost like £30 and you can now get them for like half that. your argument can be applied to hd tv's, or even to colour tv's. They were WAAAAAAYYY more expensive than the black and white counterparts and had smaller screens at first.

1 - They are dropping in price

2 - They're not made for those who want to use them as their primary storage medium

3 - And i'm sure this number is a very large amount of times.

I'm happy with my SSD and from now on i wont ever use anything else as a boot drive.

Have a look at the prices again and then see how much cheaper a SSD is when you do it £ per MB/s. ALOT cheaper than your standard HDD

SSD have not been 500 for 60GB for a couple of years. 500 now gets you 400-500GB of storage space.

More like 200 GB or so, 6G drives are a bit pricier but yes you're right. It's like people turn off the Internet for five years and don't realize what's changed.

Bro, as of 2012 the exchange rate is roughly 1.6 (1.5913) and is hovering around there. Please just stop, seriously. You're wrong. With the current exchange rate it's about 794 USD.

I use potatoes as currency.
SSDs are like $1.17 per GB while regular HDDs are $0.16 per GB so the difference is still huge.

ITs still large but affordable in small doses the Western digital Raptors were the same per GB a few years ago 2005/6.

Lol. Nothing is "rich". If you don't want something assumed, then state the currency. My apologies for assuming when all you put was "500". 500 sterling or 800 dollars is still f****ing expensive for a 500 GB SSD, no matter what currency we're using, especially since I can get a 2 TB HDD for 150 bucks. Yes SSDs are definitely coming down in price, but they're still über expensive.
