Are YOU disappointed by the games of Japanese developers this gen?
Me? Yes, I am. It's just not the same quality the games were on the PS1 and PS2. It seems like European and North American developers are on the rise this gen.
Here's an interview from Gamespot on the subject:

Im not too fussed. The east side died for me ages ago. Skyrim, AC, Uncharted, Batman, Bioshock, Aliens...these are my kind of games these days. 7 years ago it was a different story.

In general - yes.
There are a few exceptions but i played far less japanese games this gen compared to the PS2 era.

Yep, same here. In general I am disappointed
This gen has been amazing because of the great games we've been getting from Western devs, but it could have been even better if the Japanese stepped up to the plate more than they have. Don't get me wrong, there have been some amazing games from Japan, such as Vanquish and MGS4, but it doesn't feel the same as how good they were last gen
My opinion could wildly change if/when TLG and Versus blow my mind
That's another thing actually - it seems they take a lot longer to push out their games than studios in the West

I'm generally not disappointed in Japanese developers this gen, just in their lack of importance in the West right now. I'm pretty much sick of the Western game aesthetic.
Shut up and play games

Considering last gen if the box said Square Enix, or Capcom you just knew it had to be good. This gen, if there names are on it theres a 60% chance your not going to like it. I'd say yes I'm rather disappointed in them

Maybe it's just that we've paid more attention to European/NA devs...

Sad state indeed.

They were doing fine making the games they wanted to do. Now these days they're trying to "appeal" to the western audience which isn't doing them much good.

Yes, I'm pissed with those guys.
It has nothing to do with us liking what the western guys are producing. It's the japanese trying too hard to cater to the western instead of just being themselves like they were last gen. Capcom has pissed me off a lot this gen and Kojima can go sit on a broom stick for taking so long to put another title out.
I don't need no relationship with my tv. Why the hell should I pay you more money to use features I can get at the touch of a button on my remote? Oh, you want me to use these features with a camera and my voice instead? I'm not that damn lazy and I want to save some money FOR GAMES.

Not at all, and people should stop trying to westernise them..why can't people see that is the very thing that is hurting them?

This is the only reason why to the OP's question I'll say yes I'm disappointed in them. I'm disappointed that so many Japanese devs were so quick to try and appeal to the western market. This includes changing certain elements in the way they developed their game or allowing MS to buy the exclusive rights to their games, which only further damaged their brands while also helping strengthen the illusions that Japanese games can't thrive in the west anymore.

yeah, hardly anything i've given a hoot about. i pretty much blame the video game world we live in and how much shit it is compared to the glory days. if it doesn't sell 5476894376894368989 then either it doesn't get released here, or it's a failure

Let's be honest: You sleep with anything that walks on two legs. Sometimes, you're not even that discriminating

I voted no, because I am not and have never really been big into Japanese games. But I have enjoyed many of the Capcom games this gen.

For the most part, yeah, I'm disappointed.
I won't criticize the developers working on Final Fantasy Versus XIII or the people at Team ICO because it looks like they still have some integrity. I don't even care if an exclusive becomes a multiplatform title. As long as the gameplay remains the same, let as many people enjoy it as possible.Steam & PlayStation Network: BlacksitePSU | 3DS Friend Code: 1349-4916-2054

Mostly my disappointment comes from the lack of JRPGs on consoles. They aren't nearly as prevalent as they were last gen. There's been no Grandia this gen (Grandia 3 had one of the best battle systems I've ever played in a JRPG), no hint of a Suikoden console title (downloaded the first Suikoden off of PSN, lamented that it doesn't look like Konami will put up the second, and have III, IV, and V to start), there's no hope for a Shadow Hearts sequel from last gen, Square Enix is a shell of its former self, and the list goes on and on.
Really, the only way you can be satisfied with JRPG developers is if you buy handhelds, which is what I have just capitulated in doing, having purchased a 3DS and PS Vita. As it stands, I'd love for some of these JRPG devs to rediscover consoles though.
Currently playing? Skyrim (360). White Knight Chronicles (PS3). Majoras Mask (Wii). Final Fanasy VII (PS2). Just completed? Final Fantasy VI.
