http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...t-e3-this-yearMicrosoft has moved to manage expectations ahead of its E3 show in June and announced that it will definitely not unveil an Xbox 360 successor at the event - "or anytime soon".
A statement handed to Kotaku explained that Microsoft's focus for the rest of 2012 is its current-gen machine.
Here it is in full:
"While we appreciate all the interest in our long-range plans for the future, we can confirm that there will be no talk of new Xbox hardware at E3 or anytime soon.
"For us, 2012 is all about Xbox 360-and it's the best year ever for Xbox 360. The console is coming off its biggest year ever-a year in which Xbox outsold all other consoles worldwide. Xbox 360 didn't just outsell other consoles, it also outsold all other TV-connected devices like DVD players, as well as digital media receivers and home theatre systems. And in our seventh year, we sold more consoles than in any other year-defying convention.
"This year, we will build on that Xbox 360 momentum. With Halo 4, Forza Horizon, Fable: The Journey and other great Kinect games on the way, our 2012 Xbox lineup is our strongest ever.
"This year, we will deliver more TV, music, and movie experiences for Xbox 360-as we'll make it even easier to find and control your all entertainment. And this year, Xbox games, music, and video are coming to Windows 8 so people can enjoy their Xbox entertainment wherever they go."
Sony has also stated that it will not be showing off a PlayStation 4 at this year's E3. Nintendo's new home console, the Wii U, is expected on shelves before the end of 2012.

I don't expect a reveal until next year. Really no need when the 360 is doing so well.

I doubt they would let us know if it was going to be at E3 anyways.

Wow I'm surprised. I think it will be dragged out if it's going to be revealed next year. We're talking about a 2014 release...or a late 2013 release. Either way, not a good move in my opinion.
This will give Sony ample time to design their next console.

Currently, the Entertainment Division at MS is almost generating as much revenue as their OS business. Couple this with the fact that MS knows they have another Vista on their hands with Windows 8 (Let me explain: It is designed from the bottom up for tablets. They are expecting to ram in down the throats of PC manufacturers but have no expectancy of catching enterprise business with it like they did with XP or Windows 7.)
There's no way that they are going to drain profits with launching new hardware this year. It would simply upset investors too much. The days of the giant black box of performance are long over. Expect MS to play it fairly safe from here out. They've already tarred and feathered Sony's Playstation brand, which is what they set out to do in the first place. Do you guys ever stop and wonder why MS hasn't been acquiring new dev studios for first party? Xbox integration into Windows 8? You really aren't putting together the dots, yet?Thoroughly enjoying my PS+ membership.

Not surprised. PS3 and 360 still have heaps going for them. It is only a minority of the current market (generally the core and even then just a sector of them) who are foaming at the mouth for next gen. Most are content with what we have now.

I'm almost glad about this haha I don't want another console just yet, the 360 still has loads to offer at the moment, for me anyway.

the dots i put together says MS will release a console as that is the only way they will ever get a stable gaming platform as there are just so many variables from pc to pc.
hell, i've got Cut The Rope running on windows 8 on my laptop and the game tells me my laptop does not have the required power to run it and yet runs Halo 2 without problem.

best year ever for xbox 360 =/= best year ever for xbox 360 owners.
there is a subtle difference, and its starting to annoy me how much they are playing on that.Got YLOD? In the UK? I'll buy it off you.

No year will ever be the best year for a console for console owners. Not everyone will feel the same. What might be the best year for me might not be for another.

but the fact that the sales of 360 were slowly going down right before the launch of Kinect, shows that the demand was lessening...probably due to the gradual lack of support.

Looks like it will either be a holiday 2013 or a holiday 2014 release then.
The smartest time to release a new console in the states is March. Tax returns have been sent out and Americans love to blow their returns on shit.

That's just rhetorical non sense. More gamers were displeased because of lack of core exclusives. There is that. Best year for console owners would be when console owners in general enjoyed games from that year the most. No one said EVERY single one of them has to share the same opinion. Your logic is broken or you are doing this on purpose. This is what I meant when I say you are illogically defending MS for sake of defending them.

Sony trolled MS. PS4 fans didn't do it. We just laughed at MS and anyone getting mad. $399 FTW!
