I don't think it's a matter of available games but of seeing an adult in public playing video games on a handheld.
I'm an avid gamer and have been for a very, very long time, but I just see no reason to take my hobby portable. When I'm outside the home I have too many other things to keep me busy and don't need video games to keep me occupied.
It's my opinion and I'm entitled to it, but I see handhelds as things for kids to play in the back seat on trips, on the school bus or waiting in the airport with mom and dad.
I don't care who a handheld is marketed to, they are designed for kids. The price of these things isn't that much that kids don't get them as gifts or save up for them cutting grass for neighbors.
If you have ever talked to clerks at Best Buy or Gamestop, you'll learn who a vast majority of these things are sold to. The age generally starts with a 1. Sure there are exceptions, but this is mainly a kids thing.

meh, people that like portable gaming will game on a portable. Age isn't a restriction.
