I did 2 play throughs.
First run on nightmare, just focusing on that.
Second run a lower difficulty going for all collectables and obsessive compulsive (which is basically getting everything in 1 run).
I enjoyed it and going for obsessive compulsive also took me to areas of the game I missed out on first time round and as always, a second play through helps understand things more, things 'click' if you missed it first time round.
Be sure to check a obsessive compulsive guide because after so far in the game without spoiling anything, you need a certain amount of collectables to be on track for the trophy. If you go passed this without a back up save and have missed something then you will have to restart from the beginning.
That alone is another reason why I did 2 playthroughs, enjoy it first time round, 2nd time round you know the story/what's happening so you won't spoil anything for yourself if you need to check up on something.

Never really gave this game a chance. Rented it through gamefly and played for about 3 hours and really didn't enjoy it. Maybe I should try it again, may be awhile I'm in the middle of playing ME3 and just started playing Kingdom of Amalur.

Cheers for the thoughts on the platinum guys. I'm not sure I'd wanna play the game on nightmare first time round - if it's really unforgiving it can take away from the experience for me :/ But I'll have to see what's the most efficient way of blazing through it I guess

No probs, as for the difficulty it isn't nowhere near the standard of Veteran in the cod games and I can't really think of any part of the game I got irate with like I usually do
Always try and keep afew parts for schematics to help you out

I'm playing through Black Ops story for the plat and started it on Vet and I'm not finding it that hard at all, so Rage should be just fine
