Crystal Dynamics rebooting Soul Reaver - rumour

Game will reportedly have a new art direction and may be revealed at E3

Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics is rumoured to be working on a reboot of the Soul Reaver series.




VG247 says it "has it on good authority" that the studio is looking to revive the classic vampire series and that it could be revealed at E3, though neither claim has been verified. Square Enix told us this morning it doesn't comment on rumour or speculation.

Unfortunately there aren't any details beyond these internet whisperings, so for now we'll have to calm our excitement a little until the news is - hopefully - made official.


The original Legacy of Kain series became a cult hit on the PlayStation. It cast players as Kain, a nobleman who is murdered, then revived as a vampire on a quest to take revenge and return to human form. In the offshoot Soul Reaver series, Kain becomes an antagonist and players take control of Raziel, one of his disgraced disciples, who is tasked with dethroning Kain.


We've got our fingers crossed for this one. The Soul Reaver games are well overdue a reboot/sequel/remake (we'll take any), it's just a shame that series director Amy Hennig is off making games like Uncharted at Naughty Dog.

There was some really beautiful and atmospheric sound and music in the soul reaver series. I should play through again, I have it on the ps3. I would also like to play through the original legacy of kain again. The story in that game was awesome.

Oh man I loved Soul Reaver and then the subsequent games. Definance I think was the best, where you went back and forth between Kain and Razeal. The voice over work for that game was so good, made the story so much fun. I hope they do it right, I would love to play this again.

Great game played it alot and great graphics for PS1, I think it uses the high res mode.
I liked the way you had t o switch between worlds to solve puzzles and also that there was no load screens.

oh my god, totally forgot about this franchise, originally played Soul Reaver on my Dreamcast almost 10 years ago! would love to play it again!!
