Knowing Sony, "soon" could be 2015. :/

They've really only said, from the blog:
Q: Is PS Vita compatible with other PlayStation platform games like PS3, PS2, or PSP? Do you have any plan to support other PlayStation platforms in the future?
A: Users can play supported digital PSP titles and supported minis. In regard to PSone classics titles, we will announce further details when they are ready. PlayStation does not have plans to make PS Vita compatible with PS3 or PS2 titles at this point.

Yeah John Koller said on a livestream ahead of the Vita launch, that they prioritized PSP emulation ahead of PSone and that it will be coming very soon. But we'll have to wait and see when soon is

On their european twitter account Sony said that PSOne games will become available very soon after launch: https://twitter.com/#!/PlayStationEU...40929457987584
But that is probably a "sony soon"

Yeah, I'd also love to load up my memory card with PS1 titles so I can play them on the go. I just hope the quality is better when playing games directly from the Vita than remote play. I tried remote play with Final Fantasy V, and the image was slightly stretched and blurry.

There should be a firmware update in April. I'd wager a guess that's as good a time as any to also add PS1 emulation. It's not like it can be that hard, they've had PS1 emulation in many devices already so it shouldn't be too hard.

Exactly. PS1 emulation on the PS2 was already software based, and the Vita is a much more powerful machine than either the PS2 or the PSP. Granted, it's a different architecture, but the PS1 isn't all that hard to emulate. The PS2, on the other hand... I can see why it would take them some serious time for that.
