http://uk.gamespot.com/news/game-goe...ration-6368067VIDEO GAMES RETAILER Game Group has gone into administration.
Game Group, which includes Game Stores and Gamestation, has gone into administration with MJA Jervis and SD Maddison being appointed as joint administrators. Game's web site has been replaced with a placeholder saying it is "currently reviewing and processing orders placed on this website".
Last week trading in Game Group's shares was suspended after the company's directors admitted there was "no equity value left in the group", revealing the firm was insolvent. Game had suffered during the Christmas period, typically the busiest time of the year. and more recently it had been unable to buy stock including the triple-A title Mass Effect 3, which only served to highlight the plight of the retailer.
Mike Jervis, one of the administrators told the BBC, "Despite these challenges, we believe that there is room for a specialist game retailer in the territories in which it operates, including its biggest one, the UK. As a result, we are hopeful that a going concern sale of the business is achievable."
Game employs over 10,000 people in several countries and there is no news of layoffs yet. As for those who placed orders and presumably are wondering if they will receive shipment, the firm said that its customer services team will be able to help.

Well was to be expected from a few weeks back but to be honest I wasn't doubting it years ago there pricing structure was a mess and they wasn't even trying to match the next best high street seller, for slightly cheaper games from them you had to order online as in store the same game on launch was usually a few £'s more. If they do manage to come back I can either see them being a online only game site to get back up a step or defo close quite a few shops to save costs. Its a shame either way cause of the job losses thats the main thing here.Troubled British specialist retail group Game has officially entered administration, it was announced today. The move was widely expected after the firm suspended its shares last week and announced its intention to call in administrators.
EA pulling Mass Effect 3 from Game stores was widely seen as very bad news for the group.
EA pulling Mass Effect 3 from Game stores was widely seen as very bad news for the group.
Game Group--which runs both Game and Gamestation stores in the UK and mainland Europe-employs around 10,000 people globally. Of those, 385 work in the firm's Basingstoke headquarters and 5,136 in its shops in the UK and Ireland. The firm had a turnover of £1.6 billion ($2,6 billion) in the 12 months to January 2012.
"This decision is taken after careful consideration and ceaseless interrogation of every possible alternative," the Group said in a statement released this morning.
The firm has had issues with obtaining credit from its suppliers on good terms and latterly getting stock. A falling out with EA shortly before the release of Mass Effect 3 was widely seen as the death knell for the firm in its current form. "The group has faced serious cashflow and profit issues over the recent past. It also has suffered from high fixed costs, an ambitious international roll-out and fluctuating working capital requirements," according to PricewaterhouseCoopers' Mike Jervis, one of the administrators.
"As a result, we are hopeful that a going concern sale of the business is achievable," Jervis concluded.
UPDATE: The firm has issued a statement saying that "until further notice" all Game gift cards have been frozen, along with points in GameWallet accounts and on Game Reward Cards. No new pre-orders are being taken, and no refunds can be obtained for existing pre-order deposits. Software trade-ins are still possible for those looking to accrue Game Reward points or exchanges conducted in the same purchase. Trading in software for cash and trading in hardware at wall have both been indefinitely suspended. The firm is also not currently able to offer refunds or exchanges, irrespective of whether the purchases were made before or after administrators were brought in.

GAME Uk Officially Gone Into Administration

I still believe there should be a dedicated gaming retailer on the highstreet, but Game's business model was all wrong.
They need to sort things out with the publishers, price their 2nd stock correctly, and become more competative on new stock.
IF they can do this they then need to look at building a business that gamers want to visit; stock retro consoles/games, hook consoles up so people can play the latest games, hold FIFA tournaments etc. Hell, why not put sofa's in, snack bars etc & make it a place people want to spend their time in.
Gamers will always want the latest titles, the key to securing their business is to offer a competative price & something no other retailer does.

Damn, I'm French and order from Game.co.uk quite often, as the Euro <-> Pound change is quite good. Never had a problem with online orders either. Will have to find another UK game shop.
