How much do you spoil yourself of a game before it comes out?
For example, Assassin's Creed III. Will you watch every trailer, look at every picture, and read every article about it? So much by the time the game comes out, there will be no surprises? For those of you, if any, who do that, does that ruin the game for you?
If this thread has been posted before recently, just ignore it and let it die.

I find out enough to make me want to play the game usually its by watching gameplay video and I rarely seek these videos out, the good people here find them and do it for me.

That is exactly the reason I have not read any article lately because I find that I tend to read a lot about games and watch every image/video. I want to change my habit but its too damn difficult.

I just watch official trailers and professional reviews because usually those can show you what the game is exactly about but not show any spoilers at the same time.

I never read anything that reveals too much about the story. And now I'm slowly drifting away from reading ANYTHING about the story, but I don't think it is possible

Not much. I barely see a few details to learn about a game. I may see a gameplay video or two. But I try not to see any major story lines or maps

Quoting the post with the spoiler over and over again doesn't help either.

Tbh i already suspected it after i heard about the "ME3 ending outrage" but still...

ME3 has been the only game where I spoiled myself before the release. And thankfully I did so.

I read all about ME3 ending because of all the hate on it. I just had to know what the big deal was.

Depends on the game. If its a game like ME3 then I won't look at anything (only thing I saw was the E3 video) because I know I'll buy it and enjoy regardless. If its a game I don't know much about then I may watch a little gameplay

I hate game spoilers, I regretted going into the ME 3 thread because people weren't using spoiler tags and I saw a load of shit which ruined a few surprises for me. I don't know why people moaned about the ending anyway, I thought it was fine.
I remember when I used to watch Heroes and I saw some spoilers, man I was furious haha

I voted that I spoil myself a lot, but I don't know everything about the plot, that I leave out, but I am interested in gameplay mechanic trailers, dev diaries etc. I actually wish I was a gamer who isn't so involved in the industry online sometimes. If I was the kind of gamer who just grabs the games off the shelf when they are released and didn't follow the title from annoucement to launch, I think I would enjoy games a lot more. It's hard though, I love the community here and I love seeing trailers on youtube and watching GTTV etc. I don't think I can ever go back to being a "grab it off the shelf" gamer.

It's much better for the wallet being this way, more informed about the games you buy. Ironically it's probably worse for the wallet as we end up buying too many good games

I watch some gameplay and see if I'd like to play the game or not. If I'm really on the fence I'll just rent it and find out for myself. If I think it's worth a full buy I'll buy it. I keep story details out. I know some things that happen in Ac Brotherhood and Revelations but I won't spoil the story for myself.
The whole ME3 thing is a good example. I have no idea why people are upset about the ending. All I know now is once I do play ME3 the ending should be worth it if it stirs up this much controversy.
Possible spoiler for ME3

I moderately spoil myself. I want to get a good grasp of how the gameplay is flowing together and see rather or not it's worth the full $60. I don't rent games.
Prepare for meltdowns if these next gen console rumors are true. Phase 1: Denial. Phase 2: Mask a lie under "opinion" vs a fact. Phase 3: Bring up the good ol' days when it has nothing to do with the subject. Phase 4: Say that the power gap doesn't matter but constantly defend the specs.
