So I've been feeling very nostalgic about read dead and was googling news about how Rockstar San Diego is hiring for another open game (Studio behind red dead) and I came across a post where a fan list some of the things he wants to see from the sequel. I'll add my comment in bold:
What do you guys think?Gun Customization: Back in the old west, you lived and you died by the gun. That means these people came up with more than a few versions of firearms. Why not be able to upgrade calibers of weapons? and what about special weapons like a Derringer or the gun from Quigley Down Under? In fact, i'm sure they can come up w/ some creative new weapons as well.
Could be very interesting, as I would scavenge the land in RDR for new weapons. Weapons collecting was too much fun
Companions/Sidekicks: The Lone Ranger had Tonto, so why can't you get a sidekick as well that you can call upon? The trails are long and lonely, and hardly anybody ever rode alone at all times. It only makes sense to have some backup.
Don't care
Ranching: The ranching missions were pretty easy and sort of enjoyable, why not have the choice of helping run a ranch? The ranch would also serve as a way to make some extra cash.
In fact we could own ranches like a business and like in the Assassin's creed series you could buy improvements to towns and settlements to help them against bandit raids or just regular business shops. This can help increase your reputation in the area.
Swimming: I remember how pissed i was when i figured out you couldn't swim in Vice City. And it was the same thing w/ RDR. Its not asking a lot for a guy to know how to swim.
Yes Please!
Player Customization: This will be a big one, but its worked for Saint's Row and Mass Effect, why not have the next story center around a young up-and-coming gunslinger. After all, John Marston wasn't in Red Dead Revolver, so its not that big of a deal. Lets create our own character and make our own story in the wild west.
Don't care. In fact I dont want this. If the studio can create such wonderful characters for the RDR then they can do it again.
Indians: Am i the only one who noticed that there were hardly any indians in RDR? How about getting Crazy Horse a little screen time next go around ok? maybe even have a little cowboys and indians minigame/multiplayer action.
meh
Trading: bartering and trading was a huge part of the economy in the old west, so it made no sense that RDR didn't have it as an option. It would be cool to trade with other citizens, as well as indians. "Hey chief, here's some firewater, now you mind if i have some of that gold?"
yes please
Gold/Mining/Treasure: The treasure part of RDR wasn't as fulfilling as it sounds, plus you can't really mine or anything, all you do is follow a map. Lets try and improve on that.
Again, like ranching, owning an entire mine would be freaking awesome (ofcourse that will require serious cashola)
Western Legends: The whole time i played RDR, i wondered to myself "why are there no famous people in this game?" It would be awesome if they could throw in Billy the Kid, Wyatt Earp, Clay Allison, Doc Holliday, Tom Horn, Bat Masterson, Wild Bill Hickok, Jesse James, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid or even fictional legends like The Man with No Name, The Magnificent Seven, Pecos Bill, Bret Maverick, and so on. It would definitely lend some genuine legend to the story. Imagine being a young gunslinger running into Wyatt Earp in Dodge City.
Saloons, Saloons, Saloons: If you were a man in the old west, you went to the saloon for a good time, in RDR, all you could do was play a few games and take 3 or 4 shots before you stumbled around drunk. Now i think the ability to have a barfight would be awesome, and maybe even throw in a security/bouncer minigame. Also, maybe if a cowboy wants a little female companionship, he should be able to go pay for some.
Can't say there weren't enough saloons in RDR but i found Armadillo to be very memorable. Maybe there's a connection.
Trains: All you get to do is ride the train...why can't you rob it? It only makes sense to me that this would be one of the most fun things to do in the old west.
Aww yeah
Posses: Back in the old days, you could round up a posse to go after a bounty or to get some revenge or just shoot out the lights in town to have some fun. Like in a lot of other games, you should be able to recruit some "assistance" when you feel the need to.
Skyrim esque companions sound good to me
Boats: the big wrecked ship in the game is the closest you come to a riverboat. now after that, why not have a riverboat saloon or ferry?
please please please
Clothes: The old west wasn't exactly fashion week in Paris, but you should still have more choices than the last game. Also, i don't remember people in the old west unlocking clothes, they just went in the store and bought them....or they stole it from someone else. Also how about some fur clothes? I mean if i get to kill a buffalo, i want to wear it, not sell it to the general store.
Nah....whatever

I wouldn't mind another Red Dead but it would have to be somewhere new and a new character/story. Wouldn't mind an assassins creed type thing where you can buy and fix up shops and collect the profits. Maybe instead of shops it can be an array of farm/ranch products. More weapons would be cool. A gang or sidekick would be interesting. I would like them to work on the shooting mechanics too.

It might have gotten repetitive by the end, but if they brought the same type of game with some fresh updates it would make me very happy indeed. Red Dead was amazing. I admit, you are right about it getting overly long and it did lose some steam by the end. But what a ride along the way, eh?

i wouldn't mind RDR2 being a next gen launch title. I loved RDR, i bought the bundle when it was on sale on the PSN. worth every penny, i loved hunting. if they do make a sequel i hope they add more animals cause that was one of the funnest aspects of RDR.

Yeah I'd like the next Red dead to be a next gen title aswell. I hope they go ahead with it. I mean RDR has sold 13 million. Who would be stupid enough not to make a sequel.

Awesome game, one of my favs. Wasn't it at the end of the Cowboy era however? 1912 or something. Still, another game in the same setting, maybe an earlier time, would be welcomed.

Red Dead Redemption is my most fav'd game this generation.
There's heaps that they could've done to make it even more so epic (added) but it'll do just the same.
The sequel i hope they look long and hard at what extra they could include and not just pumping out a sequel with better graphics and another story.
House Building:
One thing i wish/pray/beg/hope is that they do is create a creation tool to make your own home.
Sorta like Dark Cloud (back in the day).
And, have that you need a horse and cart to carry you materials around (Wood, gold, etc) untill fou find a place you like to start building. As long as its not within city limits, then you have to buy one of their properties etc.
Gold searching in steams:
I long to grab a pan and hit the streams in search for my find, lol
Draw:
The Draw challange is good, but it also need a call out feature:
So you can challange anybody (that isn't story related), and pick a time of day.
If you miss the time, you're a wimp, lol, and you get challanged more.
etc
etc
*sigh...
i wish they'd do something like these but realistically, they'll probably just pump out another with minor difs
Do you know who i am.
I SAID,...DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM!
Look at me when i'm typing to you.
I SAID,....LOOK AT ME!

i would like it to be in the 1870's and be a cavalryman to go shoot some injins. then have a sort of either a little bigman or dances with wolves thing goin' on and i mean, being raised up by the tribe

Let's be honest: You sleep with anything that walks on two legs. Sometimes, you're not even that discriminating

Instead of being the cowboy why can't we be the indians?

The more time spent on the game will ensure that its of a higher quality. I guess if Rockstar were to release a sequel after 2 year only then it will only be prettier graphics and better story (especially given the scale of the game). I hope we can see RDR return next gen with even larger areas and what not.

Loved RDR like many on here, really want a sequel, but the extra power of next gen colnsoles would likely make it better than a current gen release

I have to agree with this. The final ranching section of the storeyline kind of meant the story ended with a whimper in my opinion. I think it would have been stronger if it finished with the death of the final gang leader and John's family reunited on the ranch. You would then have the choice to go off and do whatever you liked, including ranch jobs as unlocked side quests.
I don't intend being an early adopter of the PS4 (I want to see any hardware and software issues sorted out before I buy), but a next gen Red Dead would be first on the shopping list of games.

I want another too. It being Rockstar's first next gen title would suit me very well.
Prepare for meltdowns if these next gen console rumors are true. Phase 1: Denial. Phase 2: Mask a lie under "opinion" vs a fact. Phase 3: Bring up the PS3/360 era when it has nothing to do with the subject. Phase 4: Say that the power gap doesn't matter but constantly defend the weaker specs.
