    The world is a dark and nasty place. And there are far more horrific things out there then poaching.

    Yeah that is true, and I doubt they will ever stop poaching but hopefully they can atleast make a big enough dent in the trade that people won't take the risk

    Speaking from personal experience. Poachers are very good at what they do. Stopping them is extremely hard as most of what they do is stay hidden.

    I view all creatures beautiful, interesting and important, I never understand why people can not care when a species is on the verge of extintion because of us.

    Hah, I would too if I didn't think it was cruel to keep a Tiger confined.

    Very good post Firefox. Tigers are my favorite animals and their plight is particularly troubling to me. I am glad though that I am hearing about so many preservation efforts. I really like how they are trying different approaches and setting real goals and plans of action. I hope they can restore Tiger populations so that they can thrive once again, just like the grey wolf.

    And dont pay Kwesnoth too much attention, he sounds like a nihilist who has little sense of the intrinsic value of nature and animals. I personally feel that Tigers are one of our most iconic and majestic animals and it would greatly sadden me if their numbers in the wild did not rise to sustainable levels.

    Poaching is actually a pretty big deal. It's also an incredibly cruel practice. There's a lot of things that I might not care about, things that don't directly affect me, but I would still find hard to dismiss so easily.

    It's sad I read an article not too long ago in the Nat magazine. I would hate for us to lose such a beautiful animal. And I would personally shoot the poachers. One guy they said killing over 100? That's disgusting, absolute scum.

    I never said it wasn't an opinion..I guess I just don't understand why some people value the life of a tiger over the lives of other humans.

    But I guess thats just my nihilism coming out.

    I didn't see anyone suggest that one was more valued over the other. Killing one that kills the other? While maybe a bit extreme, is it any crazier than wanting to exact justice on someone taking the life of a defenseless 'being?' Nah.

    Until these guys go toe to toe with these animals, and even then, it's petty, cruel, sad shit. There is no two ways about it.

    You don't care? Fine. Whatever. Don't trivialize it.

    Aren't a lot of poachers just poor people that need income to support their families? Why shoot the poachers and not the ones creating the demand?

    Drug dealers? Guerilla / militia men in third world countries? Current age pirates?

    Just trying to fill the little one's mouth, right?

    It ain't that easy, and is certainly no excuse.

    If poachers can't value the life of other creatures why should we value the poachers life?

    It's a sad thing to see happening, but I think it's just like Kony. Everyone is going to talk about it but nothing will materialize outta of it. For the tiger's sake I hope they build a reserve and breed then but I remain unconvinced."We can't use the same thinking we did when the problem was created"

    Sorry, but was just being real. It sure as shit doesn't "justify" what they do, as is essentially what you're suggesting.

    And drug dealers? Compared to poachers? One doesn't immediately, automatically, necessarily involve the killing of a defenseless animal. It's not even like they're being hunted due to an issue of overpopulation.

    No one can successfully argue the matter at hand. In no honest, real, genuine way. Just stuipid comments concerning their own "opinions."

    There is a serious problem going on around here. Say something stupid, get called on it, and reference the use of an "opinion." Try that in the real world, people. It doesn't work like that. People will laugh at you.

    -edit-

    Or hit you. Or just completely ignore you from then on out. Saying something "edgy," or "different," or "controversial," means absolutely shit. It doesn't do anything for your cause. It doesn't make your point, and it certainly doesn't mean you are any cooler than any of us were already doubting you were.

    I was going to post it earlier, but figured better late than never;

    "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

    It's not like Kony where people are aware of this.. I just subscribe to National Geographic on Youtube.. watched this video.. and it struck a cord with me so I thought I'd share.

    You should watch the video for insight into solutions and problems.

    Real or disingenuous it doesn't really matter to me. They're just words on the screen to me, lol. Forums are great for some things(I've researched poaching a bit yay), but I'm not gonna get mad or upset over anything said on a forum.

    As for the Lincoln quote, if you're open minded and are the type to admit that you're wrong, it doesn't really matter.

    Words on a screen? That story I just read about the rape victim taking her own life? Just words on a screen? The story about that soldier going out and killing innocent people? Words on a screen? We are dismissing something that is pretty fucking heinous, and acting like it isn't that big of a deal. Sorry, guy, but you'd be wrong. And Kwesnoth is wrong, not to mention the fact he sounded pretty fucking stupid.

    Not going to get mad or upset? That's not my call. I'm just saying to dismiss it would be foolish. Stupid, even. If you want to "research" for 10 minutes, pass judgement, be my guest. You're not proving a point though, which is something I fear you are trying to do.

    As for the Lincoln quote ... I might add a *le sigh* but I'm feeling a picture is more appropriate for this;

    (I'm not good with this "form" of spelling. If that sounded like "gayz" as opposed to "guyz," I apologize. )

    Tigers are beautiful animals. They have one at Chester Zoo (in the UK) called Martin and before you say Zoo's are cruel and animals should be in the wild he does have a really big enclosure and probably leads a happy life. Anyway, I was just going to say he is beautiful, such a majestic and powerful animal and when I saw him close up last time and he looked at me I could sense a real power.
