PSU is a business, but not for the majority of the staff. They're nominated and work for free, so once again I am dubious about your 'man up and act the part' speech because the staff (atleast at the SMC level) don't see a cent and aren't really compensated in any meaningful way.

Do you get paid? If so, then it is fair for your superiors to expect you to act and behave in the manner you are now exhibiting. But it is a bit silly to demand it of those who work under you out of a sense of commitment to the community. In particular if they were selected for traits which made them superior posters in the first place, but then you ask them to squelch and mute themselves in the public forum.

That is not a well oiled and lubricated machine. It's cramming a square peg into a round hole.

And of course we both realize that being totally unbiased, fair, and objective is a tall order to ask of anybody- paid or not.

Sigh, and no this is not out of some kind of resentment for being demoted. I was woefully inactive, especially my duties, given my academic, professional and personal life. My demotion was well deserved on those grounds.

This is me being as objective as possible about this, without staying silent of course.

I don't really agree with this. The fact that mods don't get paid has nothing to do with it imo. I became a mod @ Gearbox because I loved the community and I wanted be a supporting pillar of it's smooth running. Of course, my posting habits changed as a mod. However, the point of contention on that site wasn't 360 vs PS3 supporters but hacking/modding vs legit players. As a poster I was very vocal, along with many others in the community, about the hacking and how it ruined the game for many, but when I became a mod I had to accept that the role calls for objectivity and an impartial mindset. Sometimes I had to take action against posters who were breaking the rules in disputes regarding hacking and how it fucked the game...it was just part and parcel of making the choice to serve the community and have that responsibility.

Why? I have been here since 2007, don't get paid, and remain objective.

If I can do it, I can expect staff to as well. The key component is they have to love the site and want to invest the time to help it grow. That is my expectation.

If it isn't in their mindset to do it, I don't want them on staff. Simple.

Tbh, when i 1st got made an smc, i struggled to remain a forum member and a member of staff, hence why it took me soooo long to get made again. but now im a mod, i do my job 1st and am psu member 2nd. i still have fun where i can, swear, make jokes etc, but i dont forgot my green status.....

SMC = Senior Member Council. I guess you can call them regular moderators with Moderators here being the super moderators(At least in some sites it was like that).


They were referring to SMC's. You on the other hand is worthy of Admin without having to go through SMC and Moderator positions. You're too good for those.
