I had a phone call earlier from an Indian guy who said he was from Microsoft, apparently they 'scanned' my computer and it turns out it had downloaded something dodgy. I didn't even wait for him to finish talking before I just put the phone down, then I walked outside and up the road just to see if there were any vans parked up but there wasn't any which was annoying because I wanted to shout at someone haha.
I know a lady in work who's dad was scammed by something like this, they get you to turn on your computer and follow some steps, then they demand money for fixing your computer. If you don't pay them then your pc gets wiped clean and you have to get it repaired, it took about 6-7 hours for her dads pc to get up and running again.
Have any of you guys had something like this?

Unless you're an IT manager or Network admin, you'll never get a phone call from Microsoft. Good catch though.

This happened to my extremely competent hacker brother, who of course refused to play and his computer got fucked.
So he grabbed his laptop, and fucked them up the ass. I don't know how, but those were his words.

Good thing I disconnected my phone line and I only answer calls from my call list list. Good to know that about this thread.

Happened to two people I know, Luckily I warned my parents as soon as I heard about it, because a couple of weeks later they rang home while I was away.
My mother answered and said as I told her, "We don't have a PC". Simple. Those fucks should be caught though, since they're getting cc info from tricking people.

Play along saying your turning your computer on while you find some extremely loud death metal, put the phone to the speaker and crank that shit to 11.

The fact they 'scanned' your computer without your knowledge is breaking the law. Next time you receive a call like that, threaten them with legal action and listen as they soon shut the fuck up.
