http://www.ktvu.com/news/news/crime-...Hdf/?hpt=hp_t3OAKLAND, Calif. — At least five people have been killed and others wounded after a student walked into a classroom at a small independent university located near the Oakland airport and opened fire.
Police confirmed that a suspect was taken in custody in the parking lot of a shopping mall in nearby Alameda.
The shooting took place at Oikos University, located at 7850 Edgewater -- in an area of warehouses near the Oakland International Airport.
The Oakland Fire Department said it received the first call of the shooting around 10:50 a.m.
Sources have told KTVU that five people had been fatally shot and many others wounded. Several victims have been loaded into ambulances and at least one deceased victim was covered by a tarp on the sidewalk.
Officials at Oakland's Highland Hospital said four victims have arrived for treatment.
Police said eyewitnesses described the gunman as a male, Asian, heavy build and wearing khaki clothing. Anyone with any information is asked to call 911 or 510-777-3321.
Ugh.

See, this is why banning guns from campuses is bad.

This is why teachers should be armed. This kind of stuff would not happen.

This is why cannabis should be mandatory if he was stoned he wouldn't have the energy or the motivation to lift the weapon.

Still doesn't compare to the countless other, "high-profile" school shootings in the states...
On topic: Sad to haer this happening again. ANd unfortuanately, this probably won't end considering the gun laws.
(I've never seen this happeining in AUS or NZ *touch wood*)- I wonder why? I mean, everyone has more or less the same capacity to be violent, as we are all human.
To me, the one, and most important difference, is the availability and access of guns.
I'm not about to debate that here, and quite frankly; while I disagree with it, I can see the merit of it in a 'philosphical debate' or an essay about liberty and freedoms (
).
But it should be pretty clear that widespread access to a lethal weapon like a gun definitely is a major part in this, as is anything wrong with the individual themselves.

Wait, is he really Korean, or Korean American? If it's the latter, the he's still American... Him not being white doesn't dete from that.

Classic western country tactic; that whenever it's negative, how quickly the people/media distance the individual/group from being a national (see UK 'Jamaican/British runner'; also see history
).

What is going on with all these school shootings? Is this a product of bullying or something?

Seems like people around the world are going crazy in spring.
Last week in germany:
18 year old guy kills little girl in a parking garage (she was only 11)
This week:
20 year old guy kills his ex's father and mother, ex gf (17) seems to be involved somehow and is now in psychiatric clinic
Guns don't have anything to do with this.
I blame it on the nice weather, people tend to stay at home in winter

All this shit stems from parents not putting the Boots 2 Asses when these kids were younger. I'm not saying Ike Turner style, but damn... people are out of control. Columbine was the exception. Now crazy shit like this is common-place in schools. Shits absurd. This is where when they find him, they need to fill him with hot lead!

That seems like terrible logic. I think things would get worse if everyone could just easily bring a gun to school. There are plenty of hot headed retards that could snap at anything.

That's terrible, I can't see any motive for someone wanting to do this other than wanting to cause pain and suffering. I know people who joined the army because they wanted to know how it felt to kill someone.

I would rather not have to live in fear of a firefight breaking out in the middle of a school day. I guess that's just me. I don't trust common students to be responsible enough to own guns.
