SourceWe're not even going to pretend we know how to say the name of Markus "Notch" Persson's next game: 0x10c. According to what info he's placed on the new game's website, it's "a space game" that will launch in a manner similar to MineCraft -- releasing in an early state so players can help shape the final end product.
The story revolves around a fictional parallel universe where the space race never ended, and corporations and wealthy individuals ventured out into the unknown. After an error occurred in the computers governing human sleep cycles while ships ventured out into uncharted space, humans woke up in the year 281,474,976,712,644 AD, finding little-to-no civilization remained.
Each ship runs on a fixed wattage CPU, so any action will drain the ship's systems. Balancing wattage will be a core component of the game. "The computer in the game is a fully functioning emulated 16 bit CPU that can be used to control your entire ship, or just to play games on while waiting for a large mining operation to finish." 0x10c promises space battles, salvaging supplies from derelict ships, an advanced economy system and ... duct tape.
Finally, the site says the game will likely charge a monthly fee for joining the Multiverse, since Notch and crew will "emulate all computers and physics even when players aren't logged in."
It sounds interesting, apart from most likely having to pay a monthly fee.

Maybe its shorthand for Ox Ten Sea? Maybe its a game that involves oxen, pirates, and the year 10 AD?

It actually reads 0x10^c.
Supposedly, the 0x in 0x10^c is a prefix used in programming to denote a hexadecimal number. 0x10 would be 16^12 in decimal which I think rounds out to the year humans would have woken up, if not for the computer error.Last edited by Blacksite; 04-04-2012 at 06:33.

Hmm. I guess that makes a bit more sense than my theory. The concept seems interesting though. I guess after the runaway success that Minecraft was, he's got quite a bit of money to throw around into other obscure projects. I'll keep a look out for this. Won't be too hard to stop any future news considering it's unique title.

04-04-2012 #5Taken from the website. In 1988, a brand new deep sleep cell was released, compatible with all popular 16 bit computers. Unfortunately, it used big endian, whereas the DCPU-16 specifications called for little endian. This led to a severe bug in the included drivers, causing a requested sleep of 0x0000 0000 0000 0001 years to last for 0x0001 0000 0000 0000 years.
usually 0xFC would stand for something like 1111 1100 in binary, where F is 15 and C is 12. It was supposed to be programmed where it took 0x0001 in hex, meaning 0000 0000 0000 0001, or 1 year, but instead flipped the order of bits because of being in a different endian format. Big Endian has the most significant bit on the left side or first, while Little Endian is the opposite.
