04-05-2012 #27If that hardware info for the Xbox is true, that will be pretty nice. Kudos to the author for using Xbox 3 instead of that stupid Xbox 720 moniker, lol.The X-Box 3 is going to have an 8-core 64-bit processor (assumedly an i7 or similar design) rated at 1.2 Teraflops. The PS4 will feature a 4-core 32-bit processor. XB3 will be using a GPU running support for DirectX 11, while the PS4 will be using an OpenGL 4 GPU. XB3 is specified to use 4 GB RAM, and the PS4 will be shipped with 2GB.

I also don't think Sony is going with cell this time.
And is it just me of 1.2 Teraflops sound insanely high. If my numbers are not off Xbox 360 was 115 Gigaflops and I'm supposed to believe xbox 3 is 10 times are more powerful?
Something's fishy here

The 360 is 240 Gigflops:

So at this stage, it is conceivable.

Uhh no your link doesn't say that. 220 Gflops is what the ps3's cell can do. And your source is talking about GPU floating point operations not CPU. Xenon (360's cpu) barely manages 96

I wouldnt worry about memory specs, its actually one of the last things they need to worry about, hell they can have the PCB printed up for them with extra banks available and simply not use them (or use them).
DLC, yeah, screwed kinda with out it, unless they ar eoging to do some sort of proprietory memory thing again. But the Blu-rya dodesnt need it these days, they are fast enough. As for the HDD, Sony might be switching to a proprietary HDD, but no HDD? No way. They know the value (and necessity) of a HDD with Blu-Ray games and the industry's trend towards many DLC packs.
More than likley, but honestly the amount of DLC out there, its going to be ridiculous to ask people to go back to that.Rather than no HDD, I think if they switch at all, it will be to make money from a proprietary drive. It's all well and good you can do your own update to the HDD now, but Sony doesn't make any money if you do. They need to bring in some $$$ from selling prop drives.
I'm taking most rumours with a grian of salt but what is coming through on most of the Xbox ones are are all similar enough for me to say its likely:
-IBM 4/6/8 core
-AMD custom GPU/2x GPU
-Blu-ray
Meh, we all could probably have guessed that.

Some more silly salt :
http://sillegamer.com/2012/04/06/xbo...ore-processor/
According to the latest issue of Xbox World magazine, devkits for Microsoft’s next generation console are already in the wild, and were shipped to developers in March. The first devkits reached a select number of developers after Microsoft’s hush-hush developer’s conference in London on February 28, 2012. The purpose of the conference was to brief European representatives on the new hardware, which is codenamed Durango – the meeting was subsequently confirmed by a senior technical artist at Crytek, who tweeted that he was “enjoying the Durango developers summit in London. So far, great swag and interesting talks.” Further meetings were held for American developers at the Game Developers’ Conference in San Francisco, with Durango devkits shipping “shortly afterwards.”The publication states that current devkits will not mirror the final hardware in appearance, however, initial specifications are representative of the console set to ship in late 2013. Sources close to Xbox World magazine have revealed that Durango’s devkit features a “monster” 16-core IBM PowerPC CPU, a GPU comparable to AMD’s Radeon HD 7000-series graphics cards, and a Blu-Ray optical drive.“Even if you had a 16-core processor in your gaming PC there are currently no games built to use it, but games for the next Xbox could put all sixteen cores to work on day one for a level of performance far in excess of current gaming PCs. It’s a ridiculous amount of power for a games machine – too much power, even. But remember, Kinect 2 could chew up four whole cores tracking multiple players right down to their fingertips, so it’ll need a lot of power.”Discrete sources at GDC also confirmed to the publication that developers expect Sony’s Playstation 4 to be more powerful than the next Xbox, and that various studios are aiming to unveil their next generation software at E3 2012 in June, regardless of whether “Microsoft and Sony are ready or not.”“Regardless of whether the next Xbox makes it to E3, the arrival of those Durango devkits is the starting gun for the next generation and once again Microsoft have beaten Sony out of the gate by getting hardware into the developers’ hands first. Sony keep denying any possibility of PS4 at E3 2012 too, but if they don’t move fast Microsoft could roll into June’s LA showcase with dozens of next-generation exclusives from third-parties. When Epic shows that first Unreal 4 demo they’ll only have one console platform to talk about – call it Durango, call it 720, call it what you like, but if Microsoft move fast it might be the only game in town.”

16 cores?
Like the current 6 core Xbox 360?
Hyperthreading is not a core. Its so useless on the current Xbox MS dont recommend using it for anytihing but short bursts of programming code.

Doesn't the multiple core architecture hinder programming?
If so, 16 is just too much I think.

I don't give a fudge which is more powerful. My next gen purchase will go to whoever I feel takes the best stance in relation to backwards comparability, used games, digital distribution and online features. PS3 pretty much put me off online gaming and it's the one thing I wouldn't mind paying for on next Xbox.

I plan on waiting a year or two into the next gen to see how things play out. MS kinect approach is not looking very good to me, whereas Sony, like always has all the games I want. But i guess we'll see when the time comes. If xbox3 turns out to be significantly more powerful than I may switch trains.
