SourceComputer and video game industry pioneer Jack Tramiel died today at the age of 83, his family reported. Tramiel, a Holocaust survivor, is best known for two achievements in the industry: the founding of Commodore International and the 1984 purchase of Atari Inc.'s post-crash consumer division from Warner.
Tramiel helped (re)revive Atari by starting a computer business there, launching the Atari ST and other desktop computers alongside new video game hardware like the Atari 7800 and Lynx.
This was clearly before my time but, nonetheless, rest in peace.

I read this on Flipboard this morning. He was a true pioneer in the personal computing industry and was responsible for some terrific products (though some of them never hit any sort of critical mass, and a few stinkers...) I had a C64 and an Atari ST-520 and a Jaguar handheld. Bad timing, market fallout and a few poor business decisions at critical points kept him from being as recognized as the founders of Apple.
