Sure, but games get canceled and release dates get pushed (DNF is a good but extreme example).

Games shouldn't be available for pre purchase in my opinion before the developers/publishers have a solid release date.

Offering access to the beta for those that pre purchase is one thing, but offering a 3 days head start and ingame items? thats just low.

I purchased the standard edition at £50 from Zavvi. Can't wait to receive it in the post. I was swayed big time about guaranteed access to the beta. Getting in 3 days before anyone else that didn't pre-purchase is icing on the cake but it's not going to be something that separates players for long.

A lot of things have a pre-purchase and almost all companies work on this basis towards each other, it's nothing new and has been going on for thousands of years.

If you pre-purchase the game you are guaranteed to participate in the beta weekends. You also get a 3 days head start on release, and some in game items. I figured that it's not going to be cheaper to buy it on release anyways...

I pre purchased it through a swedish retailer april 10th and got the box with the code in the mail today. Hehe. The first beta weekend seems to be happening late april .
