By Mandie Marron Posted April 13, 2012 Comments 1
Evolution Controllers has created something that every gamer on the go must have, the next step in mobile gaming, a game controller for your phone. Gamers who play on their phones will more likely (than not) agree that trying to play a first-person shooter on a touch screen is painful. Evolution Controllers means to change this with their latest project on Kickstarter – DRONE.
The DRONE is an open source Bluetooth game controller and is compatible with most smart phones, tablets, and computers. It uses a standard button layout that gamers are familiar with. The DRONE has dual analog joysticks, digital D-Pad, six face buttons and two shoulder buttons. The internal battery is rechargeable via USB. It can be set up just like any other Bluetooth device and can be adjusted depending on which emulator is being played.
Evolution’s goal is for gamers, programmers, developers and tinkerers alike to be able to experiment with their controller. They have made it simple to upload custom code to their controllers. Their goal is further explained on the Kickstarter page for DRONE.
Our dream is to not only be a controller for end users but also be a platform for millions of tinkers around the world. The open source aspect of the DRONE is “the ace up our sleeve.” As our name implies we want to help the mobile gaming world evolve into something much better then it is. To help evolve things we have decided that the users/programmers/and game developers need to have a controller that will allow them to experiment and have a community to explore new ideas with others using the same device. We want to allow access to EVERY aspect of the controller including:You can currently pre-order your DRONE on its Kickstarter page, but hurry, there’s only six days left.
- Schematic
- PCB board/layout so that you could make your own board if you want to perform a major overhaul of the electronics.
- SPI connector for advanced software features
- 16 pin “breakout” header will allow you to access all the pins including the X,Y of the Joystick. This ribbon cable can be routed out the front of the controller so that you can build additional “shields”
- The DRONE library will have all the “sketches” that you can modify.
Anyone else heard about this. Its a nice idea
But i am happy with the touch screen
